Hey guys,

I stupidly said I would cook for the girlfriend last night, heavens knows why I did haha.
Simple fact, I cant cook... So Can you suggest something that is simple to make yet very tasty?

I'm thinking chicken, but open to all options/styles :D

Needs to be able to be made in 30-45mins.

Thanks a lot guys,
Em

p.s. I'm not ordering in haha.

ok hmm tasty..

A good idea for chicken is this.

Buy 2 larges chicken breasts, some philadelphia and some bacon, along with some sort of potato accompanyment (garlic mash? home made wedges?)

Preheat oven, slice open chicken breast, spoon in some philly, then wrap chicken in bacon ensuring thats its tightly wrapped and sealed by the bacon, then cook for around 35 minutes, cook a side and there you go :P easy!

Im assuming you can make mash?

Go to the Deli counter in your local Supermarket & buy some ready made Chicken curry, Buy a ready cooked chicken, Buy some rice.
Strip the meat off the chicken & mix it with the Curry you bought, Cook the rice, Sling it on a plate, Hide cartons/Packaging.
Reap the Rewards & Smash that Pasty.

+ 1 for the chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with cheese. Mmm mmm.

Only I would use a blue cheese like Saint Agur and wrap in panchetta instead. Chop some taragon or basil into the cheese.

Use a skin-on chicken supreme from a butcher, the taste difference is like you wouldn't believe compared to typical Tesco chicken and you might be pleasantly surprised at the price.

Spag Bol is the cop-out for guys to cook. If you are looking for brownie points then don't cook this for your girlfriend. Go with the chicken/bacon thing if you need to or, better yet, cook her favourite if you can for maximum points

Wicked suggestions guys, Was just on videojug, is Chicken Fajitas regarded as an easy Cop-Out?
Dont want to seem like I'm not trying haha

Really appreciate the help :)

Personally I view fajitas as fast food. Also, do you know her quite well? Fajitas aren't exactly 'first date meals', unless you want to recreate the food scene in Hot Shots.

Show her how much of a man you are and cook her some steak!

Steak Dianne:

2 nice juicy steaks, cut of your choice
1 onion
double cream
dijon mustard
brandy
Some spuds

Preheat oven to about 200 Celsius. Peel spuds and slice into 2cm thick chips.
Place in a roasting pan, drizzle over olive oil and sprinkle plenty of salt and mix together with your hands to give all the chips a nice coating. Spread them out nicely in the pan for optimum crispyness. Chuck them in the oven, should take about half hour with fan assisted.

Next, slice that onion up! Nice thin strips. Put your frying pan on a low heat, put a knob of butter in the pan and throw the onions in. Stir around a bit so that cook slowly. Then get some dijon mustard and cover both sides of your steak in it and leave then to the side. Just before your onions look perfectly caramelised whack the heat up and throw your steaks in. Cook for a couple of minutes on either side then pour over the double cream. You want enough to make sure you got a nice amount of sauce each, turn the heat down a little so that you dont boil that cream too much. Taste the sauce, if it needs more dijon add it in and mix in. Then pour in a couple of glugs of brandy and spark it up. Let the alcohol burn of whilst you remove your chips from the oven and place on the plates. Then add your steak to the plates and pour over the sauce.

If you want vegetables with it I suggest buttered mushrooms of some green beans of some descript.

Voilà! bon appetit!

Id say a good spag bol is harder than slapping some cream cheese in a chicken breast and wrapping it in bacon any day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying to cook it as it's just an everyday meal, but still. Be adventurous and dont do the old "stuff chicken with cheese" option.

Did one on monday which was chicken breast butterflied and hit flat, with walnuts, sage, diced chesnut mushrooms, garlic and butter inside, then wrapped in bacon with cling film. Water bathed for 20 minutes and then brown in the pan.

Once they're out the pan, add the left over stuffing mix to the pan with a diced shallot and some butter. Cook off a bit and then deglaze the pan with some white wine. Cook off the alcohol and add the resting juices from the chicken, then add sliced chesnut mushrooms and some double cream and reduce.

Served with roasted baby new potatoes, green beans and carrots.

Never said otherwise but the chicken/bacon thing is a bit less "tired" than a bloke making the usual Spag Bol.

I would have suggested steak but didnt know if his girlfriend likes steak (a lot of women don't). If she likes steak then I would be going along those lines.

Yeah I would also have suggested steak, but due to the OP I thought chickn/philly/bacon, for someone who cant cook, is a very easy/tasty dish that can also look the part with a good garnish.

+1 for steak tho!

Make sure that you let the steaks get to room temp before cooking, pan hot as it can get etc etc

And also, sweet potato chips are gooood! but I have found they take some time (35-40 minutes freshly cut)
