Hi guys.

I'd like to connect my PC on one side of my room to the TV at the other, to allow me to watch my movies on the bigger screen. If I buy a long HDMI cable and connect them up is that all there is to it? What is involved in making that work?

I have a 5770 with an HDMI port on the back and an HD ready TV.

Thanks!

just connect them with hdmi, the right-click on desktop>screen resolution, and change it to either duplicate display/extend display/show on desktop 2 only, and that will work.

just one thing.

how far is it from your pc to tv ?

i got a long hdmi lead from the bay and it was 15 feet, the only problem is that it is poor quality and over a longer distance the lead need's to be of a better quality.

i also had a 5770 when i done this.

Hmm I got the 10M OcUK one and that works fine from one side of my living room to the other. I needed about 8M so have a bit of spare. I get no signal drop at all. Apparently these things either work or they don't.

If you use duplicate display then I believe your PC monitor and TV must use the same resolution.

I have mine as extended and I just drag media players from one screen to the other. A quick change to the sound device to AMD HDMI Output and sound comes through the TV too.

I also discovered a useful shortcut. To switch applications between monitors use the Windows Key + Shift + Left Arrow.

You may also need to switch the sound output from your sound card (or onboard) to the HDMI as well. :)

yeah, i use extended display with wmp classic, its great, i can start a video, drag it over to my hdtv, then make it fullscreen, and moving the mouse doesn't make the display come up!
media center and media player can't do this.

Thanks for all the tips guys, really helpful!

In answer to the distance question, I'd guess approx 3metres (need to measure it!) but I may end up getting the 5M cable just to be safe.
