I have managed to hit a massive pot hole in the wet dark sounded like id hit a wall.

anyway seconds later my oil light came on. and now there is a smell that i cant quiet put my finger on. thought maybe it was the clutch smelling, but checked and i have now developed a rattle from the midsection on my exhaust. the oil light then flicked off 2 mins later, i pulled over to check the van over and once i got back in the light was off.

ive had a look under and im undecided if i have cracked it at the joint, but i dont think its blowing.

any ideas what this smell could be.

typical everytime i go away to work something goes wrong with the van :(

Are you sure that's your exhaust rattling and not your big ends rattling becuase you've walloped the sump and lost a significant amount of oil?

Hit a massive pothole
Oil light comes on
Sudden rattling noise....

theres no lack of oil in there! havent noticed even a tiny little drop of oil on the road

What if it broke the oil pickup off? Or dented the sump and blocked the oil pickup, you could be slurping up throff and pushing it round the motor at less than normal pressure with the oil light off.

Usually by the time the oil light is on it's too late. Hence stop immediately!!!!!!

the motor is my job lol i live in it when away so its pretty key!

there is a hole in the exhaust which i am now filling!

so i have now noticed that this smell only happens after i have been up a steep hill! i checked at the bottom of the hill after a good 30 mile drive and there was no smell! up the hill and there it was.

it always smells like anti freeze like a hot sweet smell :S

Random stab in the dark: A hill gives more load, which means more pressure in cooling system, forcing coolant out of a very small leak?

My 620ti does this, tiiiiiny leak from waterpump housing. :p

theres plenty of water in it though! doesnt seem to be loosing any water :(
