Mate has phoned me asking if I can upgrade the memory on his desktop. He lives in the middle of nowhere and it's quite a drive to get to him so I asked him to let me know the model of PC so I can check what RAM it takes and grab some from my local PC place before I head for his place. He sent said it is a Packard Bell ( desktop ). He's really not computer literate so the only details he says he can find are on a sticker on the rear and it says :-

Packard Bell B08
Model : AD0086

Only other thing he can tell me is its a black case and has an AMD 64 sticker on the front. Not much info to go on!!. Googled the model but came up with nothing and the PB website only seems to have current model info on it.

Worst case, I'll need to visit him first and check it out for myself but in the meantime if anyone has any clues to what it is, that would be very useful and save me a wee bit fuel!!.

Ta. :)

there's a certain website, they claim to be 'the memory experts' tell him to go there and run the system scanner tool. it'll tell you all you need to know i.e. mobo, available ram slots, max ram etc, he can email you the link page the result generates. i've had numerous friends do this and its always been fine

i only remember them because since i built my own pc, all the friends now think i'm some sort of free tech support!! any time they wanna upgrade their ram i direct them there and ask for the results page, and they think I'm a legend!!

When looking up drivers for an old P.Bell PC, I managed to trace the model number, but this still had various 'sub-models' using different mobos, CPUs, memory architectures etc.

Hopefully the mobo listed above is the correct one, but I'd rather trust to CPU-Z or Everest before forking out for the wrong memory. Or even get your mate to undo two case screws.
