Your Attainable Dream Car?

top gear is actually where i found out about it, but thanks for finding the youtube of that clip

just as long as i get one built properly im sure the windscreen wiper and front left brake will be fine, and i'll drive really carefully in the wet.

btw, im so much of a top gear fan i happen to know its actually the 2nd DNF - there was a lamborghini made off road car that ran out of petrol before it finished in a really old episode of top gear

For me, I can't pick one but here is a selection:

Mk1 MR2 with ally V6 from a Camry (Got the car but not the engine :p)

Not such a fan that you know that the HF3000 did actually post a time once they replaced the engine, and that the time was made up, and that the engine blew up because the Stig ragged it from cold after being brought out of storage, and that the lap footage was made up of a series of deliberate spins achieved through several takes each.

I've been thinking about this since the thread was posted and I still don't have a definitive answer, there are a lot of cars I could reasonably call 'attainable dream cars' ...mostly old American muscle cars of various sorts. However, if I ask myself the question 'if I could own one car only, and that car is to be called my attainable dream car, what would it be?' ...I get the following answer; http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2463381.htm ...this was the only one I could find for sale on Pistonheads at all, it's not the colour I would choose but it's the right car. Now 80k is a lot of money and right now it's far from attainable but it'll depreciate heavily over the next few years and I will get more money, lots more money and we'll meet in the middle in a few years time :)

I still prefer the shape of the older X350 XJ ...like the one I have, but if I were to start talking about attainable dream cars I would want something either more modern and higher tech ...or older and very rare and special, like a '71 Dodge Charter Super Bee or something.

However for the purpoes of this I'm saying a Jaguar XJ Supersport 5.0 V8 Supercharged.

My brother in law runs the v6clio.net site and has a phase 2 v6 and to be far its pretty decent. wouldn't be my choice but its what he wanted and replaces a written off phase 1

It would be a second car. But I think it is the end of an era in terms of cars. Never again will a car company stick a V6 in a small hatchback "just because" and then sell it to the public at a reasonable price.

They made a HUGE loss on each car sold as they sold about 6 :p in total, and the engineering work to shoehorn that lump in the rear and actually still make the car even vaguely drivable was immense.

1990's Lotus Esprit Turbo - attainable, really cool but not a wise buy or usable daily driver sadly. I would quite like a Z3M Coupe as well!

I really fancy an Alfa Romeo 156 2.5 V6 at the moment. I'm seriously considering buying one at some point (probably not until I have at least 2 years NCB) but the reliability scares me a bit, although someone told me the V6 ones were actually fantastic engines and nowhere near as unreliable as the twinsparks?

Although these really are getting on a bit these days.

However, as of seeing one at a dealer at a reasonable price last weekend, a Z4 M Coupe.
