windows 7 premium V Ultimate 64 bit

Check box and labels to determine if it looks genuine before opening.

my worst worry was that it wasn't a 32/64 bit box set and just the unused 64 bit part with both 32/64 having same key and only one been able to use key at anyone time ...... is that how it works with multiple bit versions ? or do u get two keys?

assured tho its a full retail version 64 bit only win 7 home premium wont get till during next week tho cheers

any advice help welcome Webb

If it is a full retail package there will be two DVDs and only one Product Key. Check the green paper seal has not been broken on the plastic DVD case. The whole lot should be in a celophane wrapper.

Home Premium does not have XP Mode, and there is no way to get it. However, you can use any of the free VM software available to run your own virtual Windows XP. Though of course you will need to have a copy of XP and Product Key for it.

am told this product has been opened as they tried to use unsuccessfully ill have to wait and see what i get ......... but insist its full version but only 64 bit home premium ? with key ....... can u get 32/64 on one disk ? maybe ?

did ask them about key and the double disk set keys ???? watch this space lol

I hope its not from the same guy I bought mine from. It was supposed to be sent first class recorded a week ago and it has not arrived yet! Strangely enough he can't supply the recorded delivery number so I will be contacting the auction site for a refund very soon :)

Got my windows 7 home premium just the one Hologram disk 64 bit with product key came inside another box that says its a OEM System Builders Pack Intended for system builders only ? but if it activates OK, i built this system ;)

not tried yet, want to install to a partition on a disk that also has XP Pro 32 bit in a separate partition, can this be done ? also on this same disk is my saved files in a nother separate partition all partition are NTFS

don't wont to loose my XP Pro or saved files, all previous windows let u decide where to install a operating system is this true for win 7 ? and will win XP still boot when win 7 takes over the MBR or am i just best of installing to separate HDD ?

My idea was to have three partitions first 200GB win 7 64 bit, second 100GB XP Pro 32 bit, third storage app 630GB, i was then hoping to raid that drive with another 1TB drive ?

but unsure if would work cos of 32 bit and 64 bit on same HDD plus cant raid at the moment anyway until i get new board

any advise help welcome Webb

one major thing to be careful of is *popular online auction site* sellers selling MSDN test keys, they will work for install and seem to activate ok, but they are really for MSDN developers, and will de-activate, requiring you to obtain a new key from MSDN, after 3 months, by which time of course, the seller has moved to a new *auction site* account leaving you no recourse.

there is a way to tell immediately, by comparing the 3 digit section of the product ID (different to product key). this can be found by going to 'computer' and clicking 'system properties' at the top

some info here, although I can't find the list of what 3 digit sections would confirm the MSDN theory

[hope there are no competitor links in the thread, I'm just trying to help webb and can't be bothered to read the whole thing again]

When TrojanWhore linked to an external forum thread it was possible there were links in that thread to a Competitor of OcUK, such a link breaks the OcUK Forum rules, so he was hoping to avoid sanction with his comment. Of course he should have run through the thread to check, ho hum!

You are only a system builder if you sell the system. Building it for yourself doesn't count. So strictly speaking you are not legitimately using your copy of Windows 7! ;)

If there is a free partition for you to install to, then yes you can install Windows 7 to the same HDD as XP. No other partitions will be affected.

don't wont to loose my XP Pro or saved files, all previous windows let u decide where to install a operating system is this true for win 7 ? and will win XP still boot when win 7 takes over the MBR or am i just best of installing to separate HDD ?
Windows 7 is no different. Windows 7 will also create a boot loader, so you can choose which OS to boot on start up. Though separate HDDs is my preferred method of dual booting. I just switch boot order if I need to change OS. Though these days I have VMs and a work laptop if I need to use a different OS to 7.

My idea was to have three partitions first 200GB win 7 64 bit, second 100GB XP Pro 32 bit, third storage app 630GB, i was then hoping to raid that drive with another 1TB drive ?

Creating a RAID would destroy all the data. So you would be wasting your time installing anything.

It doesn't matter one jot what the other OS is when you dual boot. It could be Linux, FreeBSD or MSDOS. Your OS does not share any files with any other OS.

I also wouldn't bother with RAID unless you have a dedicated RAID card. Software RAID sucks in comparison and is a nightmare to sort out if you ever change boards in future.

OK cool managed to get my money back sending back that MSDN version of windows 7 ......... i was lucky but what if i had installed, and not been suspicious about it ........ the DVD is original and looks just like a retail one why????

sorry Siriusb didn't notice we had gone to page two only just seen your post thanks for the advise :)

but Ive been thinking of upgrading MB just for the raid on the MB would i just be better of getting a raid card then ?

off to look at other points u made and again thanks Webb

already got the above above configuration in place apart from the raid bit, not got raid as yet, or win 7

are u saying i should move the storage ? to a unraided disk?, surely raid cant wipe operating system ?

am i totally wrong in thinking raid would mirror one hole drive, on another of same type, and one failing, the other would have the data? and because u using two drives as one, get faster search times?
