The quickest way of getting a good team is to purchase 500 points for £4.25, I don't say you need to do this but if you're impatient then this is the best bet. You'll get some gold players, if you don't want, sell them. I'd see who you'd get first and maybe build around your team that way.
I did this and got Aguero so I started a team from La Liga. Play Single Player tournys and you'll get around 6k for the whole comp. It's very hard at the beginning as you'll find everyone else has the best players but you just have to be patient.
If you're good at the game you'll find you end up beating players even so they have all the good players!
