Inexpensive Suits?

Savoy Tailors Guild/MOSS often have special deals on nice looking (and feeling) suits, I've bought one before and it is still perfectly fine.. Was £149 on special offer in the new year but the offers are always regular so check out your nearest factory outlet.

Other than that, others mentioned above although I've never liked the style of M&S suits, I wear slim fit suits and could only find this kind of fit at MOSS/Next/Burton and other outlets like that.

Only ever had to have one re-tailored from Savoy but that's pretty cheap @ £20, worth it for something you'll probably wear often I guess.

A cheap suit looks, well, cheap.

Every man should own at least one suit. Buy a good charcoal one and it will last many years, you can use it for funerals, interviews, work, events like races, weddings etc etc

Hi,

Unfortunately I have a funeral to attend in the near future but I don't own anything appropriate to wear.
So, can anyone point me in the direction of where I can get a complete suit relatively inexpensively? (jacket, trousers, shirt, tie & shoes.)

I have heard that M&S 'off the peg' suits can be of good quality, is this true?

Thanks for any help.

Yes m&s do very decent off the peg suits.

It doesn't need to be black, but should preferably be dark. E.g charcoal grey.

Get a White shirt and a black tie to go with it.

If you have a smart jacket (overcoat), you could probably avoid buying a full suit, just wear smart trousers + white shirt and black tie.

Will you wear the suit again? 200 quid for suit, tie, shirt and shoes means that they will all be of very poor quality.

Sorry but that is just wrong. You can pick up suits that fit purpose and look ok and are of an ok quality for under £200.
No they are amazing and they dont look expensive, but they are far from poor quality.

next do a decent range of suits for not mega-money. If you can stretch to the italian range, up near £180 you'll be pretty happy. The cheap stuff (£60, machine washable) isnt for me, but is borderline disposable.

Just read the "all suits <£200 look cheap" and well, its total arse tbh. I've had expensive suits go shabby on me as quickly as cheap one.

A lot comes down to your build, and the cut, and if you're big then yeah, maybe off the peg isnt the way to go - but i'm 6'2", average build and a 44" jacket, from the italian range at next, tailored fit, is perfect for me. As i say, i no longer buy the £500 suits i used to, the £180-£200 next italian ones last well, and look very sharp - fine for work, and mean i can replace them twice as often if i ever need to.

M&S £49.50. It's all I buy now. No suits ever last me more than a month so I just get cheap ones now. £300 shoes, £100 ties £70 shirts and £50 suits, simples.

I'm done with expensive 100% wool suits.

A month? What the hell are you doing to your clothes?

Yep, some look ok after a month and some I've put holes in within that time. We're talking about wearing them 5 days a week for a month. Dry clean only (wool) suits just don’t last me longer than 4-6 weeks. Even if I get them dry cleaned for £20 they're never new again. I might as well just get disposable £50 suits.

Not too sure when that's so hard to believe? As for the person that basically called me a liar .

Example, I bought a £250 suit from TM Lewin a couple of months ago, managed to get the pocket caught on something the first day I worn it and ripped it all the way down to the knee.

Shirts and shoes are a different matter. Shoes need to look nice and a nice thick cotton shirt makes a suit. Cheap shoes also make your feet stink so that's a no go!

Holes within a month? Really, what do you do with them? Are you a well dressed miner? :) . A couple of decent suits on a rotation should last you years.

Sorry to hear that you have to attend such a sad occasion.
I bought two from Slaters menswear in Edinburgh - one was ~£100 the other ~£200. The quality was great and I'm still wearing them 18 months one. Slaters have stores across the UK. Very good value for shirt + ties also.

There's a difference between the suit being poor and you just being a clumsy so and so. The suits are fine, it's you that obviously has the issue!

I dunno, spending money on clothes all the time because you ruin them would be a nightmare.
