Running Shoes

The only thing im going to be doing is running on a treadmill in the gym at work and mine at home!! Would it still be beneficial for me to do that?

It's £25 in there if I'm not going to buy the trainers there!! I have 2 pairs of running shoes now so don't want to spend anymore money!!

It is, especially once you start running longer distances and more often. You whole body will appreciate good trainers, and that dosnt mean spending a fortune, just choosing a good pair that suits you and your running style.

gait analysis takes no time and a lot of places offer it for free.

I know you say you have already spent money and what you have may be fine, be aware though they may not and it can lead to injuries. Something I underestimated when I started running. I had a couple of pairs of brand new running shoes but suffered badly once I got above a few miles, it caused me pain and to miss training because they didnt offer the support I needed.

Those are the shoes I have and they are excellent. They are also very flexible since they cover over pronators and mild under pronators - runners world gave them an excellent review recently. Gait analysis is important and it is worth getting it done everytime you buy a new pair of running shoes.

This is an interesting point. I have been told its a good idea but never been told its worth repeating. Whats the benefit of having it done each time you buy new shoes?

Firstly, it is quick and generally free, so nothing lost really. There have been studies, however, that have shown that your gait can change as muscle and ligament flexibility/size changes. I think it is much more important if you have just started running and have worn out your first good set of trainers.

Good trainers are essential though. They made such a difference to my running in the early days. Hopefully they will prevent problems as I get older too. I get knee pain after long distances as it is, so I can only imagine what a cheap pair of trainers would do to me!
