Im a retard with regard to this thing but want to get one of these cables to hook my laptop up to my HDTV. Do I need to get anything special or literally just any cable?

I was looking through ebay and keep seeing *GOLD PLATED* etc, does this actually matter?

Yes, you NEED gold plated ones... If you're paying less than £500 for cables you'll be losing quality..

HDMI sends a digital signal, so therefore it is either ON or OFF.

To a practical level, it cannot really be effected by "interference" or any other mumbo jumbo Electrical Salespeople will try and tell you :)

From an Ex-Bennetts salesperson who ripped off sooooo many people :(

Also, I think your sig is too big :)

the only difference that's worth noting in HDMI cables is the build quality, some of the cheap ones break really easily, but gold plated is lit snake oil, a complete sham, they will all give the same picture and quality

Gold plated? Results in straighter ones and rounder zeros doesn't it?

Fully agree cheapo HDMi cables are more than suitable... But..

HDMi cables are not true digital cables they use a voltage which is analogue it can vary depending upon conditions the only true digital cables are optical. There are no 1's or 0's in the cables this is binary a language designed to aid computer programing the signal is passed through the cables as a voltage..

I'm done....:D

I got a lovely 1.8m one for 37p + 99p p&p the other day.

So far it has neither exploded or set itself on fire, though I have caught it giving people who walk past the house outside some dirty looks.

Going to the AV show in the Marriet hotel (Bristol) tomrrow, always fun to see the overpriced cables and some 20-something salesman chatting to me about how it improves quality. Lol's always.
They even chatted to me about kettle leads, and I asked if they would improve computer performance with one of their £1K+ power leads, he said yes. :D :D
