I am skinny, I want to be average.

Biggest load of rubbish there really Frankcatkill! Some of the biggest bodybuilders around were once ectomorphs.

Also it's a physical impossibility to turn fat into muscle. Fat is fat. It has no protein or amino acids that can build muscle.

Yeah sure, and if you believe they did that via just eating protein and going down the gym, you'll believe me when I say 2 harrier in my garage, and ones a drop top.

Well, I'll agree to disagree, but the show is out there shown on Channel 4 if you want to look for it. It'll back up everything I said, and they did there studies on real skinny people.

But I'm afraid its fact that muscle is easier to build from fat, than it is to build muscle from where there is no fat. I've studied this myself and read in countless places in my own quest to gain bulk and size. Everyones metabolism is different, and I could never really gain any kind of confidence from a scaled test to see how different peoples metabolism works, as you can't scale it, you need to test upon hundreds and hundreds of people. To say there is an average is scaling tests, but there are countless combinations of people in genes at different ages and stages of there life to consider. I mean half of my family is prone to obesity and finds it very easy to gain weight. My dad side however is prone to being of average weight, and yet I'm not smack bang in the middle of both? Saying that, I'm 25, so things might change when/if I get to 30.

If you show me any sort of factual study that shows its easier to build muscle from fat I will shoot myself happily. Its biologically impossible to turn fat into muscle. It may appear that way due to most fat people generally being broader and actually carrying a decent amount of muscle under their fat but fat cannot turn into muscle. Full stop no arguments, no but I've seen it its impossible in the same way unicorns and cities in the sky are.

So I suppose the natural pro's who undergo rigorous drug testing are at it as well then?

you're just wrong on about every count mate. Move along.

You guys are so ignorant. Believe what you want, watch through the series link I provided if you want some unbiased, relevant learning, unless you think the BBC is something I've made up.

I mean, I'd hate to take someone so knowledgable and informed as yourself outta the gene pool "tom e" but, heres a link to a website I made up called the Telegraph newspaper... Dunno whether you've heard of it, I obviously wacked it out in the last 10 minutes to prove you wrong but erm... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/...e-how-to-turn-a-beer-gut-into-a-six-pack.html

Here's an article relating to 2 seperate articles made up by me... OBVIOUSLY!

Only put on 5kg more than people are now? What rubbish.
Turn fat to muscle? What rubbish.

Skinny people really can eat as much as they want and not gain at all? What rubbish.

Next?

Its true. I'm ~6 foot, barely 11 stone, I can eat as much as I like or as little as I like and my weight literally does not shift at all - my body fat hasn't shifted either going by the electric scales we have - I'm easily putting away 5000 cal a day - I have tried pretty much everything to bulk up a little with no difference.

And drug testing! Don't make me laugh!

Haven't you heard of the Tour De France? Well erm, if you want an idea of the lengths atheletes go through to prove drugs/steroids aren't used, you'll get a better picture from having a little read about the drug use in the Tour de france. Steroid abuse happens all over the world in top level competition, with the highest level of anti doping tests being used in the Olympics. Atheletes are basically under 24/7 spot drug tests any day of any week. Drug tests are always going to be one step behind doping, if you believe anything otherwise, you need to get back to your science books.

Telegraph newspaper said:
"But they say only the body's 'good' fat which we are born with can be transformed, and not the 'bad' fat created by over-eating and not exercising enough."

Right while I'm getting back to my science books, you'd better get back down the gym because both you and every other ecto out there can, and do, gain more than 5kg of lean muscle with the right diet and lifting program. You can wheel out all the entertainment docu's that you want, but I'll wheel out all the people that I've known over the years that have been hard gainers, and put on a hell of a lot more than 5kg. End of.

Please don't call me ignorant I'm happy to be proved wrong as long as the proof is a decent study which actually has some bearing on the biological systems of a mature human being.
What you've given me shows that the brown fat we have a lot of when we are born can possibly be linked to muscle growth.
Now your only problem there is finding a mature human being with more than a few tiny patches of brown fat hiding in among all the white fat that comes from over eating and a sedate lifestyle, which yet again at this point in medical science is like the unicorn etc.
Also the article references the names of numerous different types of growth factors that are needed to turn the brown fat into muscle all of which they then go on to say they hope to synthesise a drug to mimic these effects and therefore gain the benefits, at no point does it actually mention the body being able to do this naturally by the time we reach adulthood.

Your happy to proved wrong, yet you put stupid statements like "I will shoot myself happily" and "Full stop no arguments".

So please excuse my understanding of your literal expression of the definition of the word ignorance.

Sounds just like me :D Normally I can remember, but there's those times when I draw a blank and just end up guessing, which has been eventful when I've guessed too high :p

Exactly, going to make up a spreadsheet to show my gains over the 12 weeks. Take a few photos and record it all, helps with the mentality of it all too!

Not helping that I am also training for a half marathon and nijmegen too!

What can I say I have a way with words :o but I wouldn't know half of the stuff I know now about training if I wasn't happy to change the way I think after seeing evidence. Such as the very idea of a high fat diet would have scared the **** out of me back when I was 15 and first started at the gym because I knew nothing about it. My views on it have completely changed in the last few years of me taking my lifestyle and health a bit more seriously.

Fat is a great starting place to gain weight, as its easier to turn fat into muscle.

Your argument is invalid.

P.S The protein and creatine supplements can play havoc with your digestion, and the protein will give you the most horrendous farts if you eat too much, as your body can only digest what it needs, so don't go OTT on it. Imagine the farts after a heavy BBQ, but 10 x worse! The creatine however is worse, and not for everyone, and if it doesn't go with you, stop taking it.

This is subjective. Confusing the OP with subjective experiences of supplements he doesn't need is just going to confuse him.

Not posted in a while since I've been ill.
But this thread has got some pure carp in it. If you really are that thin and want to get bigger just eat. Don't think about how healthy it is. Eat eat eat eat. Like chicco says a lot of people think they "can't put on weight no matter what I eat". Eat 3 times what you eat now everyday for a year and then weigh yourself and tell me the scales say the same... Its easy to pop in the gym and lift a few weights have a chat n think you're going to be huge, it's a lot harder preparing and forcing down 7 meals a day.

no this is carp... there may be a good number of skinny people who can put it on by eating more... theres equally a good number like myself who literally can not - been trying to put some on the last few months and my intake is about 5000 cal min and probably hovers close to 7000 and I just burn the extra off as heat energy and maintain current weight - equally I have to seriously undereat to lose any weight at all.

You eat 7000 calories a day and train intelligently yet you "literally cannot put on weight". Wow, you are a medical marvel.

Rroff, while I'm not questioning you, to be fair you need to give your body more than "a few months" to properly adjust perhaps before you go believing that you cannot put on weight. I find it takes me a good month for my body to adjust and react to dietary changes, and I'm at the opposite end of the scale to you with regards for how easy it is for me to gain/lose weight.

Give it some more time. If you still weigh the same at the end of the year, then you can claim to be a freak! Also experiment with different food types as your body may react to one better than another.

I've given it more than a few months... just a few months on the latest attempt - I can put on a bit of muscle mass but I don't put on overall mass so it looks a bit silly.

I sounded a bit harsh in that last post when I read it back :/. But honestly mate if you aren't seeing the weight increase you need to eat more, even if you think you are eating like a horse and couldn't possibly have another bite, just do it :p
