Worth Crossfiring?

Hello peeps,

I currently have:

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition unlocked to quad core and OC'ed to 3.6
ASUS M4A79XTD EVO MOBO
600w Thermaltake PSU
G.Skill Ripjaw 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
500GB SGATE ST3500418AS 7200RP
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 5770 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card

I was thinking about upgrading, and noticed I can pick up another sapphire 5770 for 70quid maybe less. Is it worth it? And would my PSU handle it?

Thanks in advance

Ewaf

Awesome, I will still hunting for a bargain then! (Can't quite come into the OcUK market form yet due to post count, working on it ;))

In regards to actually fitting xfire, is it as simple as slotting it in and plugging in the crossfire bridge thing? (Sorry for amateur terms!)

EDIT: ALSO! Does it matter what brand the gfx card is? For example I have a sapphire, will say an XFX work with it? Or does it have to be sapphire?

Cheers

it just has to be the same family model, 5770 & 5770, 5850 & 5850 etc etc

and yes, just plug the other card into the 2nd slot, connect the crossfire bridge and install the drivers to enable crossfire ;) just make sure you have good cooling cos twin cards can put a lot of heat out :)

Sweet, thanks for the help guys! Looks like a worthy investment!

Appreciate it

EDIT: Just read you have to make sure the two cards have same clock speed? As diff brands sometimes have diff clock speeds etc? This true?

i had 2xHD5770s in my old rig and was ok, but i must admit m single HD6850 is a lot smoother and seems to be better overall, personally i would look at selling your current card and putting the money towards a better single card.
also, do some mobos not slow down the pci-e speed if 2 cards are fitted?

Maybe thats a better idea? Sell the 5770 and buy a 6850 or something? Probably would only be spending a fraction more? Any Advice?

my HD6850 cost £115ish, and i definatly feel its better than my xfired HD5770s were. i think its down to whether the games you play support multi-gpu fully, whether the psu is man enough, and whether your mobo will still support x16 with 2 cards plugged in.
the other option if money is short, is buy a £20-£30 card, sell the HD5770 you have and put it with the money for the 2nd HD5770 and then save the rest for a HD6750/90
