In the latest pc gamer magazine, it recommends the msi gtx 460 hawk. It's 1024MB 780mhz core, 336 shader cores, 1560 shader MHz 1800 MHz memory speed for only £155. gets 102fps on dirt 2, 88fps on Far cry 2 so sounds very good for the price. If you want to go more expensive they do a palit 2GB gtx 560ti for £220

Problem with the 560s is that they are slower than the 6950 (and those can even be unlocked to 6970s!) and they don't overclock as well as other nVidia offerings. For £200 if you mind noise the 6950 is your best choice, if noise is not an issue the 480 is a cracking deal and overclocks better.

Mate a 560 will beat the 6970 when overclocked. You're saying it doesnt overclock well when it does the complete opposite.

But it doesn’t, even when overclocked. These cards have already been pushed quite high at 822 Mhz at stock. Most won’t do more than 925 Mhz and even at those speeds is just about par to a stock 6950.

I have seen reviews of the fastest 560ti about, the Gigabyte SOC and that comes short of beating a stock 6970 and that is at low resolutions. At higher resolutions any 6970 will just smoke the 560. The 6950s also unlock to 70s and they are at least as good overclockers as the 560, most of the time better, as they have got high quality VRMs. They also have more and faster memory.

The 560 is a poor card for the money and that is a fact, for the same amount of money you can buy two vastly superior offerings at the moment. The 480 or the 6950 unless you value a very quiet card above all, the 6950 are not loud compared to the 480 but they probably are compared to the 560.

The 560ti is making a name as an overclocking demon. Most reach 950 core on stock voltage at the very least. It's also a very cool and quiet card, and a fine piece of engineering.

Personally I think the best value card is still the 6950 2gb (unlock etc) but this comes with potential drawbacks for some users; much increased heat, noise, and the risk it won't unlock (small risk but a risk nonetheless). To call the 560ti a very bad value card simply isn't true. It has a distinct set of advantages for some users. Also they go for as little as £180 on the net.

For the money I think the best is the GTX480 at the moment, its still a fast, powerful card, and to be honest I never hear mine over my case fans, and it never went over 78c when playing Crysis Warhead for over 4 hours (also 50fps in Metro 2033, with DX11, everything at max except AA which is at 2x, and no DoF), close second is a toss up between the 6950 and 560Ti, could never decided myself which was better from both the user reviews and benchmarks I saw

so if you consider a card that starts at 820mhz and mostly goes up to 950 a demon, then a card that starts at 800, gets more shaders, and goes up to 950 in the process is a demon king :D

The GTX560Ti overclocks like a beast. I've overclocked my MSI GTX560Ti from 880mhz to 1000mhz on STOCK voltages. For £200 I'd go for either GTX560Ti or GTX480, do bare in mind the GTX480 uses a lot of power and runs hotter compared to GTX560Ti, which is not a bad thing if you've got some good air flow in your case. Put it this way, GTX480>GTX560Ti if you don't mind the noise/heat.

Edit: Just saw the price of the GTX480 and it's great value for money at this price!
