Oscar Nominations 2011

The King's Speech a pretty average movie? Please...if you thought that was average you'll hate True Grit. Inception by far the best movie? There's a reason why The Social Network and The King's Speech are favorites.

I agree 100%.

Very happy with the results myself, though I don't think Tom Hooper deserved Best Director. Then again the person who actually deserved Best Director wasn't even nominated.

Gutted that David Fincher was passed over for Best Director, to me the direction in The King's Speech was nowhere near as tight as that of TSN. I'd also rather have seen Hors La Loi win for Best Foreign, but it's not exactly 'comfortable' Oscar viewing I guess. I'd also rather have seen Restrepo or Exit Through The Gift Shop win best documentary.

Totally deserved wins for Sorkin and Trent Reznor, but really wish TSN had won more than it did.

Brilliant interview with Sorkin. Legend.

Hmm interesting.

I haven't seen A King's Speech or Black Swan so can't really comment on the Oscars this year.

But I completely agree with what Inception got. It wasn't as good as how people went a bit mental over it and I'm pretty certain I understood it. For me it was a very good story line, well told - but that's it. The rest was based on visualising the writers' fantasies. Unsurprising it picked up the particular Oscars it did if that makes any sense.

I enjoyed the Oscars, Thought it was a bit dull though, not quite Billy Crystal :p

I also was a bit "surprised" by a few of the winners and losers, I thought The Social Network was a truly exceptional film, I thought the lack of awards won was a bit meh, I thought it should have won at least one of the Director or Best Film. Director imho, and the Kings Speech picking up Best Film.

The lack of nomination for Chris Nolan for his direction and Andrew Garfield for his supporting role was a bit confusing for me. Maybe not winning, but nominations at the very least.

I also, having now seen the Fighter I really don't understand how whats her face won supporting actress over Helenna in the Kings Speech.

Love Sorkin, really a top bloke and an amazingly talented and fantastic writer, The West Wing episodes he wrote, were amazing, Two Cathedrals was just television perfection. Love his voice too :D

Anyway, pleased to see the Kings Speech win, I did think it was very good :)

Inception is overrated and underrated, it's funny imho, it's trying in one instance to be the next Matrix but on the other hand is treating it's audience as intelligent people and showing that action movies can be complicated and still hit home with a massive audience.

Totally agree on the Andrew Garfield and Chris Nolan fronts. I hate that with Oscars people win 'when it's their time' not for the best work they've ever done.

Also, best ignoring of the crappy Oscars 'get off the stage' music ever by Aaron Sorkin. Legend.

I also felt Noomi Rapace should have at least being nominated for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I felt she was very very good in that, but hey ho, it's not in "American" so those films don't count :(
