So the insurance companies get to increase premiums for half their customers.

This is good how?

Wont the insurance companies just say that its got nothing to do with gender, its calculated from the risk of the driver having an accident and back it up with some stats.

Does Europe think that policies are age discriminatory as well, we might all end up paying the same insurance as 17 year old boy, that'll be nice.

they wont be able to ask about gender

HAHAHAHA you wanted equality ladies!

Great so my wifes insurance could increase substantially and mine will probably stay the same, great job EU always there to help people out...

get a multicar policy then :rolleyes

surely this might mean that men could now claim against their insurers saying that as per this ruling for years we have been unlawfully discriminated against on grounds of sex?

Profit?

I'm glad this is happening.

If there was a male equivalent to Shelia's Wheels with men singing and saying that they are better than women drivers there would be outcry and lots of complaints from women.

Anyway, HAHAHAHAAA

Insurance costs are based on risk - that is the fairest way to price an insurance product.

What next - 17yr olds pay the same as 50yr olds due to ageism concerns?

Banning no claims bonus because of discriminating against crap drivers?

Not charging extra to drivers with 9 points on their licence because they've already served their punishment?

Banning postcode rating because it discriminates against people in inner city areas?

If you start to tamper with fundamental insurance risk assesment you're basically turning something that is statistically proven to be fair into something that is statistically proven to be unfair.

If there was a statistical variation between black and white drivers, would you be happy to let companies set premiums based on that? What about country of origin?

Just have a state 3rd party insurance, cost added to fuel. Then you just buy extra cover. Would stop insurance avoidence, work out cheaper etc.

The claim is that the premiums for men should go down a lot, since men will no longer be charged extra to subsidise women's car insurance.

Some men rape so are all men rapists? No.

Benefit of the doubt should be given until you prove yourself a risk.

We're not given the benefit of the doubt though.

lol we're not asked to prove we can drive safely.... Insurance Providers simply make a few assumptions then spew out a random figure.
