what do you wear when you board a plane?

It's somewhere you go to wait for your next flight in relative silence, except for the people in said suits who often like to conduct "business" loudly on their phones...

"Hi, it's John. I'm in the Business Lounge. Let's do some Business. So how many photocopiers can we sell today?"

I tend to sit there quietly and get **** faced on free booze :p

not that I get to use them very often

while they are nowhere near as good the pay lounges at airports tend to work out good value if are partial to a few before your flight

I can only assume by that assertion that you don't fly business or first class very often. If you did, you'd realise that the majority of lounge dwellers are dressed like vagrants! Especially in the likes of Heathrow where people connect from one long haul flight to another. You get the suits for a short while early in the morning and later in the evening but any other time it's fairly casual.

There's no shame in dressing casually when entering an airline lounge. It's not an exclusive club or anything. It's somewhere you go to wait for your next flight in relative silence, except for the people in said suits who often like to conduct "business" loudly on their phones...

Couple of times a year, don't care what others dress like, since most of my travel is actually for business i like to dress both my job and travel needs.

For example i wouldn't want to get off the plane at the other end to be picked up in a client driven car wearing Jeans and a T-shirt, doesn't look very professional.

You will be hard pushed to find a group of people better travelled than those who sit around me at work, whilst its not company policy when going out on Business we all dress to a similar standard.

Jeans and a polo shirt.

Don't dress any different when I'm turning left. Main difference is that when I'm turning left I'm already ****ed from drinking in the lounge :D.

Trousers, t-shirt and a hoody.

However - and I'm not sure if anyone else does this - I ALWAYS take my shoes off on planes.

If you're going to sit around at home and watch TV, have lunch, go the toilet etc for 8 hours, you wouldn't be wearing your shoes. I feel a lot more "at home" on a plane if I'm shoeless.

The only problem is being sat down for so long causes one's feet to swell and getting your shoes back on can be a bit difficult!

Jeans, tshirt/shirt, trainers and a hoodie/jumper. Anything thats comfortable really. Business class or economy I always wear that, even if I have to go straight to do actual business; I will get changed once Im off the plane.

I get the impression that those who are out of their depth in such a situation - ie they could never afford it themselves and luck in when a client funds it - like to big themselves up and make the most of the perceived prestige.

LOOK AT ME! LOOK!!! LOOOK!!! IM IN BUSINESS!! HELLO LOOK AT ME.

LOOK AT THAT VAGRANT (who probably actually had enough to buy his own business class seat).

I arrived in the US, wearing my business attire, to be greeted by a work colleague whose first words were:

"You wore that **** on an 8 hour flight? Oh my god what an ******."

:)

Becasue those who haven't paid are going to see clients so need to dress fitting for the situation once they turn up, those who have paid on the whole won't be.............

ROFL. :D

It's been a while since I actually LOL'd that hard at a forum post.

I'd have thought most people who really travel for business on a regular basis in First and Business would have long grown out of 'Look at me in my suit, I'm in First you know' and instead dress smart-casual. Which is exactly what those meeting them at the other end would expect them to do.

I mean seriously, who sits on a long haul flight wearing a suit? Fair enough for a 90 minute flight to Paris but long haul? Why would you possibly do that unless you were some sort of newbie who thought it was the done thing?

I suspect Firestar once got lucky with a Business class seat, suited himself up to the max and borrowed a Rolex and now thinks he's awesome, pitying the vagrants :D
