Hey all,

Looking to get an iMac in the future, and want an SSD. Don't particularly fancy Apple's generic SSD as all the reviews and forums seem to suggest the performance falls away over time because of the lack of garbage collection / TRIM support in 10.6.

Anyway, who's taken their iMac apart and done this?

i've not done my 24" but looked at changing the supadrive so i can rip blu ray, from what i can see it looks easy to do but just needs some time in doing it, youtube is your best friend, also i read that the new Lion OS will have trim support.

iFixit is a good source of dismantling Apple products, though I haven't followed (dismantled any machine) any of the guides myself.

Let us know how you get on if you choose to do it yourself as I'd be interested in sticking an SSD in my late 09 21.5".

I'd assume though that such an upgrade performed by yourself would void any warranty you get?

I work for a glass manufacturer, so there's no shortage of suction pads :)

If you're after recommendations then the Sony BC-5640H is an excellent slot loading Blu-Ray drive. Just put one in my Mac Mini.

AFAIK the warranty is intact as long as you don't break anything while inside the machine.
