Good on LG tbh if sony have indeed copied there technology etc then sony should just put their hands up and cough up the compensation to LG.

Get a PS3 before they run out! :p

LG granted preliminary injunction against Sony; only 'two to three weeks' worth of stock' in the channel

Shipments of PS3 consoles have been seized by European customs officers as an LG injunction against Blu-ray technology seeks to block Sony products from sale

Think LG have a case, Sony are clearly infringing on LG patents..

Sony's suit against LG regarding smart phones is a lot less cut and dry however.

Could someone sumarise what is it exactly in the PS3 technology which Sony has infringed on? Or is it the entire concept or something?

Something to do with 4 pieces of tech in the PS3 (3 for the BR, 1 for the Bravia link) and 4 in their TV's (Bravia link)

In a nutshell - Sony tried to Sue for patent infringement regarding smart phone tech.
So LG have decided to do the same regarding the PS3 and Bravia TV's.

Its a bit tit for tat and can see both cases being thrown out in the end, but LG's case has more substance to it.

The idea that this is going to cease production and sales of ps3's for any great length of time is surely just not going to happen ?

That depends.
Sony could drop their case and agree payments and its all done, but i doubt Sony's ego would accept it.

More likely it's going to last for a few weeks - month, and have both suits thrown out.

Yeh I just read about this. Had to laugh once I read that Sony started it with the Smartphone business.

Maybe both companies will seek an out of court settlement to get out of it.

LG must have a strong case or be a bit stupid as
The stakes are very high for LG, said patent solicitor Michael Coyle, of law firm Lawdit.

"It will have to pay an astonishing amount of money if a judge rules that its patent is invalid. When a firm seeks to have goods seized they make an undertaking to pay for storage and compensation," he said.

Patent rows between technology firms are nothing new but tend only to be played out among big firms with deep pockets.

"Patents are very subjective so a patent claim is very risky," said Mr Coyle.
