8800GT died, recommend me a new card

Well it looks like my 2nd BFG 8800GT card has died, getting garbled text during POST and cannot log into either ubuntu or windows, and since bfg left europe warranty is invalid

So I need a new card, anyone got recommendations for a card with similar or better performance? Budget is £100 and I would like to go back to ATI, so I was looking at the 5770, is that any good?

I'd get that post count up to 250 and pick up a 5850 or similar from the members market for around £100.

when you get to 250 posts you have access to the members market on these forums where members sell and buy stuff.

The 5770 is not a massive upgrade from an 8800gt no.
I own a 5770 it's a good card but forget maxing newer games at 1680-1050 and above on it.

I just think it's far better value for you to get a second hand card with £100 budget most will still have warranty left and receipt etc so don't be put off because it's second hand.

Forgot to ask what cpu and memory do you have ? if you insist on buying brand new I'd still stretch a bit over £100 and get a 5850 or GTX 460.

Thanks for the info.

After my last post in thread, i took the cover of the 8800gt, reput some thermal paste, reseated it all, and it started working fine again, then 1-2 days ago I got another problem, complete memory loss, the card was working, display working, but video memory so couldn't play games, nothing gpu related etc, so took of the cover again and reseated it and its working again! how odd, think i'll stick to it for now until it completely dies and then go for a 450, 460 or 5850.
