Drink driving.

Never drank and driven the same night but I probably have been over the limit the following day despite feeling fine.

Edit - 27

Pint with a meal , couple hours to process then drive may stretch to 2 pints if it's over say 4 hours or more.

Driven in the morning when i probably shouldn't have had....

I'm 20.

I drove from a gig back to the house in my student days heavily under the influence. I was around 18/19 and remember stopping the car in the middle of a dual carriageway to say hi to a guy called Steve Wright who was walking on the other side of the carriageway. A cop car went by on the other side, promptly turned and stopped me.

What made it worse was the car was full of drunks who were pleading with the cops that I was a muslim and it was against my religion to drink. Got breathalysed but before the machine beeped the lady officer told me that I could go.

No idea what happened that day, except that it taught me a big lesson and I never drove under the influence ever, until.......

I was in Edinburgh, stopped off for a quick drink at some girls leaving do but ended up staying longer then I expected. Then I got the dreaded call from the wife asking me where I was? The rest is history, I was around 31 at that time.

I then haven't done it ever again, honest.

In this country I won't have more than one pint if I'm driving later on, when I worked abroad I've had much more but it was more acceptable there (and then)

In Europe the UK & Ireland have the highest limits and some just cover the natural alcohol you could have in your system and nothing more.

I have never driven drunk, but I am guessing I have driven still under the influence the next day.

The most stupid I have ever been is driven from Bournemouth to Essex, the day after being dropped on my head through a glass window and onto the floor of an restaurant. Turned out I had severe concussion, and was very ill with it for about two months afterwards.

I mean that the 5 units is for your average male. Your body will only store it for longer from there in theory. It's in no way an accurate system, but it illustrates it easily.

For women it's much tougher. One drink can put them over the limit. A whole bottle of 12% wine is 9 units which takes 10 hours to leave the system, a long time and it doesn't take much to neck a bottle of wine for some individuals. Really makes you think how many people are actually over the limit, unknowingly, every day.

Who said it is 5 units?

I said it was different for everyone and you seem to be elaborating on a point that has been made. :)

That is why i said i will have 3 at a push over 5/6 hours as i drink bitter so a pint will be 3 units max and i will have got rid of 5 units~.

The above scenario is the most i would feel comfortable taking a risk on and god forbid i was pulled over and slightly over the limit, it would be close enough to be below by the time i got a reading at the station.

I know it sounds crass but i have to echo Telescopis sentiments on the matter, albeit i do agree with the whole fear appeal as long as it doesn't turn into a witch hunt i.e. stigmatised for having 1/2 shandy at lunch and driving home 3 hours later.

We have the highest limits but the harshest penalties (which are also enforced).

I think it works.

The reason we have a limit is to cover people the morning after and for a social pint.

Never have and never will. Not even after a pint.

I'm cackhanded enough normally, dread to think what I'd be like after having something to drink! Taking an Engine out whilst hungover the day after 6th form prom was fun...

I'm 23, been driving for a little over two years, and I won't even consider alcohol if I'm driving. Would also be reluctant to drive the following day if I'd had a heavy evening the night before, but I barely drink these days anyway so it's not something I need to be concerned about.

Driving these days is bad enough as it is, last thing anyone needs is to be slowing their reaction times.

As above, 19 though...

A pint would put me over the limit quite significantly, a small glass ( half a pint) puts me at just over the limit of 0.2‰, so simply said, I don't do it, don't want to risk it.

Strange this thread has popped up now. I did something very naughty on Friday night, normally I know my limits but got a bit carried away. Nothing actually happened, but never again. 25.

done it a fair few times in my youth, got caught, haven't since I'm now 34 was caught when I was 22 I think

although I drive after a pint at least a few times a week, don't remotely consider this an issue.

Nice to know I'm not the only one whose been caught, thanks for owning up :)

Similar to Joshy, have driven after a couple of pints. I have a decent tolerence level and felt capable and fine to drive. Generally speaking, I don't tend to drink more than a pint if I know I'm driving.

27 btw.

Just goes to show then dosent it, the change in attitude towards drink driving has worked.

As suspected i thought there would be less drink drivers here than PH because this has the younger audience, thats one government campaign that has actually worked.
