Best headset for ££

well obviously the HS1a with the xonar will produce the best audio quality because your paying more to have specialised components. Any reason you have chosen the Corsair Hs1a ?

Would the inline amp in the HS1 not be better then a cheap sound card?
I like the spec of the HS1/A, good sound quality from what i've read/ been told and the price seems reasonable. Feel free to suggest better for same price or less. Im open to advice :)

Not a headset as such but:
Xonar DG ~£20
Goldring DR50 ~£30
Goldring DR150 ~£50
Speedlink Clip-On Microphone £6

I myself have the DG and DR50's.
OCUK don't stock the Goldrings as of yet but I think they plan to.
This is a combo that is regarded as good value for the money by a few members on here.

Like me.
I have the DG and DR50s and think they are very good quality for little £s.
I've come from an X-Fi to the DG and I'm more than happy with the headphone performance of the DG.

hy there , i bought the hs1a corsair and the dg 5.1 xonar , the sound is great and , the corsair does not have a huge bass but with the amply inside the asus card you can balance it well. i am really happy of the purchase, i kind of rediscover all my sound in game, i was using a soundblaster 7.1 se but the sound was not so god when i test both card, with the new headphones. the corsair are well built and really comfy.

Would you say it's worth replacing an X-Fi with a DG for the built-in dolby headphone support?

I certainly haven't looked back.
My only problem with my SB0770 X-Fi was that the drivers did my bleedin' 'ed in every time I mucked around with the OS. But coming to the DG is a revelation on the headphones, and I haven't noticed any loss in quality over the speakers.
So... all is good for me with the DG.

BTW, anyone want to buy a perfectly working SB0770 X-Fi? ;)

I like the steel series V2 tbh its a lovely sounding headset, okay maybe by upcoming goldrings will blow it out the water but its fine its cool its not really that expesnive round about £55-65

otherwise nothing wrong with whats already been recommended just I like being different, but its a good headset and belive it or not a nice set of headphones, they do sound a bit like my Sanns HD205 with a bit more bass line to them

Sorry didn't realise I couldn't post link, that's fine warning accepted.

Bang for buck is subjective, but superior quality over a long period of time, and if you look after them they could easily have a 20 year+ lifetime, nothing beats them. Cables are modular as well (one plug in each side so no annoying wires flapping around), and replacements easy to order.

After they are broken in, the comfort is very good. The best headphones for comfort where the HD590's, very good quality and they float on your head, nothing beats them on comfort. 650's are tight at first, but leave them between some books to stretch them and they become very comfortable and non fatiguing.

I swear by them. My hi fi cost me around £5k and these £300 headphones are very close to the quality of sound that comes out of that. They seriously are the best product, I have ever bought, ever.

If you look you can find them for <£200 as well. I think mine cost £180 brand new in some sale.

Only problem is you can't skimp on a soundcard.

Bang for buck is a variable thing. I tend to look at it as what's the best for £x. There's always a point of diminishing returns but for some people hearing any improvement is worth it.

I got DR150s for £30 and HD600s for £100 (both new). Are the HD600s 3x as good as the DR150s? Not in my opinion. Are the HD600s good for £100 compared to what else is out there -oh yes!
