I sold this item on ebay, and have just received this message from the buyer...

Dear krisboats,

Hi,Are you prepared to do anything about the fualty deawoo box i brought from you ? Mrs sadler

- g******3

The item was paid for through paypal the day it was purchased and i shipped it a day later through (i think) royal mail special delivery at around £9. Good feedback was left at the end of january to say the "box works well".

Is there anything i can do? As it appears the person has had the box for a few weeks, left feedback to say it's working, then changed their mind for whatever reason.

She says it was working then just cut out and wouldn't come back on. However i left it on all day before i sent it and recorded a movie to the hard drive to ensure it worked. Now to me it sounds like it's overheating. So i was going to reply and tell her to ensure it's in a well ventilated location as i know most manufacturers suggest giving a few cm on all sides for airflow (think my AV amp recommends 6cm).

I just don't want to have them jam a screwdriver in and send it back saying it's faulty. What should i do?

Tell them to return it and if the serial numbers match those on record (bluff), you will refund them.

Actually, seeing as they left feedback, tell them to do one, there was no warranty sold with the item.

Just 'tough luck' for the buyer I guess.

there's no warranty on it is there? if she confirms it was working when she first bought it and now it doesn't it's just very unfortunate for her. You could offer her some money if you wanted, just depends on your conscience really

Personally I would ask them to return is at their cost and refund the cost of the item (but not postage) assuming the item was the same one I sent them and actually faulty (and not obviously broken by them).

however you are not a shop and the item was I assume sold with no warranty so I think you can jsut ignore them.

I'm selling something right now actually...

Did you stipulate a returns/refund period at all? I always put it in and then put details of where to go if something breaks outside of this period. For example an old iPod = go to Apple.

As you did not put a returns policy there is no comeback really
see here

Return policy The seller will not accept returns for this item.

Sellers may be required to accept returns for items that are not as described. Learn more about your rights as a buyer.- opens in a new window or tab

You sold as discribed and no warrenty can be given on used goods, plus the user has said it was working..... so.... not your fault really.

You could offer them to send it you back and then you can test, but this postage will be at there expense like it would at most places online and then usually you wont here from them again, morally not right but Business is business

You have done nothing wrong, if you buy anything second hand you dont expect it to have warranty.....Unless bought from somewhere like cash convertors or casg generator etc....

Buyer trying it on
Forget about it, he cant leave you neg feedback as he has already left you feedback

Block him and move on.

Almost 2 months later and she expects you to do something about it?

I know what my response would be tbh, you're not a retailer.

Be polite and explain what others have mentioned, it was sent in good working order and as a result I am unable to offer any further help/assistance on the matter.

If they paid you using Paypal then that entitles them to a 45 day protection in which they can log a dispute with you.

If you have clearly marked the item being sold as faulty or untested then Paypal should side with the seller on the dispute if the buyer has entered into a transaction knowing the item they are purchasing is not fully working.

It was sold working, she tested it as working, it broke while in her possesion, politely inform her to go forth and multiply with herself.
