Dragon age - shall I get it again?

Hello,

I got DA orgins at it's release date and only got roughly half way through it - it just didn't feel balanced and I got bored with it. Have the patches improved things much? Lately i've been drawn to play it again. I have the orginal CD but I see on steam I can get the original game + expansions + the 9 dlc's for £25.

Do I gain much by getting the extras?

I did exactly that, although I think I bought it in Game for £19.99. I think it's even cheaper now, in their 2 for £25 deals in store.

Awakening is an excellent expansion, I thought, and the other DLCs are just icing on the cake. It'll cost you almost that just to buy Awakening, so it's definitely worth it.
 
Cheers Albino - did you also get bored on the first playthrough? Do you know if the patches improved on the gameplay? I can't remember specifics now but a lot of things irritated me with the combat
 
I didn't get bored with it really, I just forgot about it. When I came back to it, I really got into the story and the lore. I never really had too many issues with gameplay mechanics, to be honest. Awakening has some nice additional abilities and talents - runecrafting is nice. I'd definitely recommend giving it another try.
 
One thing I can remember is as a blood mage - you had to turn on the blood magic and everytime you fell out of combat it turned it off and it was extremely irritating. There was little things like that which really got on my **** :D

If you didn't like it then you won't like it now, patches didn't affect gameplay. If you are now in the mood(maybe you werent last time) for a good rpg maybe try the version youve got first.

Personally I'd get The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut for £12.99 off Steam (hate using disks now), for one this has an amazing looking sequel (unlike Dragon Age, imo) coming out in May, so it's worth while playing this first, that and it's an excellent game in anyway.

I bought that when it was in the sale a few months ago. I've not started it yet. Does it have a pretty decent story? I understand it was pretty buggy at first, but the Director's Cut fixed all that.

The Witcher has had more love to it then any other game I know, they released a patch that was over 2 GB! It's safe to say there are very few bugs, you very likely won't notice any. The story is high quality.

Yeah maybe that's what it is. I've completed The Witcher and enjoyed it but didn't really like the combat system.

I generally like to 'solo' and allow the AI team to do there own stuff. What class would be suitable for this? I remember liking the rogues combat moves but are they good for this task? Maybe a dual wielding warrior instead?

I went with a sword and shield warrior. This allowed me to give lots of threat to the mobs, and tank them myself. The AI players could be set up to attack and heal appropriately.

This is where Dragon Age shines.

I played fighter (as per usual :) ), but I hear Mage is a very fun class, so if I replayed it I'd go with Mage (even though it's a tricky class to play i think)

Yeah that always seem to be one the best ways to go. Is it fun to 'tank' in this game though? I don't know why but I always prefer to use a 2 handed sword or dual wield than use a shield - the combat moves are normally much more interesting :)

There are quite a few offensive shield moves. I didn't find tanking "boring" really, and you can always take over an AI character if you get bored.
 
DLC isn't everything, the original Dragon Age disk has got more than enough content. Once finished, move onto Awakening.

My advice, in anyway(if you can get awakening cheapish).

Thing is, if your playing a rpg, you won't be putting the disk in/out of your drive constantly, as the likelyhood is it'll be the only game you play till you complete it.

make sure it's patched up first, if you decide to play it.

It'll probably be on sale a week or two before DA2 comes out, personally I'd hold out until then if you aren't in a huge rush.. I couldn't and bought Awakening anyway :P
