I'm reading this at the moment. It's quite startling that a book written in 1931 describes a dystopian future that bears more than a passing similarity to our society today.

That particular Ayn Rand book is over 1000 pages long, I think the OP was after something a bit thinner . Try Anthem by Ayn Rand, its a great read and only a novella.
