7 days ago i got a blank screen, no signal. tried monitors, cables even a new gfx still the same problem.
so today i boot it up. fans whirring........no signal, i go out and buy a mobo fit it try the gfx and onboard gfx and still no signal on monitors!!

am i right in saying the cpu is dead? or could it be the memory? this has me really puzzled! any help guys?

Could be either of them... try new ram first! Or if you have more than 1 stick. Try them separately. No point trying different slots due to new mobo.

The possibility of both sticks being the problem is unlikely, but possible.

From what you've told me, I would look towards the CPU. Take it out, have a look all around it and is there any signs of burnt areas?

doesnt look burnt but its been overclocked for 3/4years, its aocket 775 system so its a e6300 core duo 2 i think?! i think your right and it mabye be the cpu, luckily its not an i7 system else i would be ££ down!

Ahh! Sounds very likely to be the CPU now then. It's just 'worn' down by the sounds of it. Has it been voltage increased for those years also?

Time for a nice upgrade maybe? :P

yeah voltage has been at the max. im actaully repairing the pc for a family member , so will just get the same budget pc!
thanks for the help!

I doubt very much it is the CPU. They tend to last for a very long time. Have you tried replacing the PSU? These on the other hand are very common to go.

would the psu make the fans spin though? the board has power and i can see the green light on the motherboard?
