GTX590 or 2x580?

Yeah good example, wonder when the 600 series gtx cards will be released? If it's later on in year then I might just hang on. My current card still handles all games at max. Just loud under load! And not dx11

I have tried ATI cards in the past, just seem to prefer nvidia? Not really sure why. Suppose it's like tea or coffee! They both do the same job but don't to personal preference. On paper ATIs should kill nvidia with all the MHz and cores and pipelines but they never do, just like amd CPUs they always cheaper than intels but in my opinion never as good!

Paying twice as much money for the same performance is nonsense though. It's all well and good having preferences, but that would just be stupidity.

Damn, you've allowed him to regain his dignity :p:D. (Joking)

But yeah, I read it as 1.5GB more than the 580 too, however I know what he meant.

I think it's too early to speculate about the GTX590s performance, price, heat, build or anything else quite yet. What would be silly would be discounting AMD from your choice, as they definitely have better priced cards, and in crossfire/SLI the new 69xx series have the scaling edge (just). On the other hand, two GTX580s are more powerful to begin with, so as far as two card solutions go, it depends on what you're willing to spend.

Luckily AMD aren't sticking to the rumour that they'd release a month late (thankfully), so we should see some nice 6990 vs GTX590 benchmarks soon.

:p

I fully expect GJ02 to be completely silent in this thread now. :D

This. Excepting blind loyalty towards a brand, AMD and Nvidia are at level pegging technologically. You can never compare the two cards Mhz for Mhz as they are very different architecturally. All I can suggest is to go on Price vs performance, and as of the moment, two 6950s would provide the best performance for your hard earned cash. The release of the GTX560 has driven the price of the 6950 down by a large enough degree to make it one of the best price/performance cards out, whilst the GTX580 remains one of the worst value cards, having not had it's price reduced to put it in line with the rest of the competition.

yeah the high end gtx cards are too expensive. I just want a gpu which will still be decent in 2yrs time as thats round about when i change it. ive had my gtx295 since it got released and its still good now. pretty soon it will be out of date with dx11 etc. if i get a £200 card for example id probably be upgrading a lot sooner! and in my experience upgrading twice is more expensive then paying for example an extra £100 in the 1st place. thats my theory. but im no expert just love my pcs.
