So what exactly are you eating per day? I doubt the cream of the crop body builders (natural & assisted) don't touch 7000 kcal per day!

List your diet.
 
frankcatkill, somewhat impressively, almost everything you have said is completely wrong. In fact you're so wrong I'm getting pains where my common sense gland is.

OP, for your own good please disregard his posts, they won't help you at all.


What you need to do has already been covered. Briefly:
- eat more, but sensibly throughout the day (i.e. not just "MY GAAAWD I just ate a big pizza. Ok job done")
- Prioritise adding more protein first, then fats and carbs. Just upping carbs will mostly add fat to your frame.
- do the gym routine in the sticky


I'm not saying this is the case for everyone, but I find some peoples concept of "a lot of food" amusing. People are amazed when they eat xzybigmeal and I'm left thinking, yeah, try that several times a day just to maintain weight! It's an expensive business :D
 
The problem is that LOTS of people eat some bad food each day and just assume they are eating thousands of kcals, when really they aren't having that much at all.

This is what I was getting at.

OP initially it's be said that 7000 calories were consumed. Then nearer to 4500. When in reality it's probably likely to top end of 3500.
 
Doing my cut with IF at the moment, and I'm eating about 2200 - 2300 cals on a training day. And to be honest, I was surprised at just how much food this is! Once my cut is over I'm going to start calculating what my 3500 cals would be for bulking, as I seriously can't see how I could manage to eat that much food in a day!?
 
I share your thought MoNkeE, when I worked out I needed to eat 3600 cals and planned it out I was amazed just at how much food I was going to have to get through. How anyone could manage 5-7000 is beyond me but I would be interested in seeing a diet plan for it.

then he's gonna say he also plays football 3 times a week, cycles a lot and mistery solved, no weight gain.

People eat a pizza in day or a bag of crisps and think they've pigged out when in reality they've only got 1500 calories of useless crap.

I'll just give an example of my maintenance diet on which I'm still losing a bit of weight (although I am a fairly active nearly 16 stone elephant. :D)

morning:
big bowl of porridge + 2 eggs
snack some almonds
proper lunch (200grams of meat + 150grams of vegetables + pasta/rice couscous/potatoes) and an apple/orange
snack some almonds again
some fruit before gym and a coffee
PWO shake (get some simple carbs in, especially if you want to gain some weight, don't be shy at all)
proper dinner, same as lunch but only the meat and veg
pot of cottage cheese before bed

and maybe a sandwich during the day if I feel hungry.

if you want to add extra calories then throw in a few peanut butter and jam sandwiches here and there (yum!)
 
I agree peoples perceptions on calorie intake are misguided. Having an extra few slices of pizza, a second sandwich and some crisps or chocolate will only add about 700 calories to you diet maximum. This is then percieved as eating loads. When in reality it's not. Over indulging at one particular feeding is why people find it difficult to physically eat all the food that's required as you're then stuffed for the rest of the day. (This goes entirely against my IF thread as over indulging on my twice daily feeding period leaves me with a massive appetite still :p)

I am in the same boat as you OP. When i was 18 I went to the gym frequently and ate a lot of food, and took protein shakes. I felt much stronger but I didnt really look any different. I stopped going after a few months of not noticing any changes except being heavier. (maybe to others quite a difference, but to me I was still a stick)

I am now so sick of being thin that I am determined to do it again!

lol you gave up too quickly. Muscle building is a very slow process and it takes years and years. It's all about consistency.

also lol @ people saying they're eating 7K cal and not gaining weight. Have you carefully counted those calories? I really doubt eating 7K cals of proper food a day wont make the scales shift after a while. Many people think they eat a lot when in fact it's something like this:

small breakfast
average lunch
big dinner
some quick snack

and they say "ohhh but I eat sooo much." :rolleyes:

Maybe there is a point where if I ate more I'd put on weight... but its never gonna happen I'm already eating as much as is in any way sensible/possible and literally do not put on anything, from 2001-2005 I was sitting on my arse all day (programming job) and eating poorly (lots of junk food) and was ~6foot and just short of 11 stone, from 2005 til present I've been eating better, working out and just over 11 stone and thats all from gained muscle - my body fat hasn't budged at all (150lbs to 155lbs in all that time).

I think you need to be much more specific in what you eat and how active you are on a day by day basis. There's no way at all that you're eating 7000 calories and not putting weight on. I don't think you appreciate just how much food that is.

Just think, do you think you can realistically eat 3KG of chicken breast, and 2.7KG of rice in a day? (3KG of chicken and 2.7KG of rice would be 7000 calories, just for an easy comparison). As has been said, you're probably eating around 3500 including junk food with no real nutrition in it.
 
Here's a quick rough estimate of a typical meal I have, which I'll have 3-4 times a day.

Full packet pasta: 660 calories

2 onions at about each: 80 calories

Half a tin of tomatoes: about 50 calories

Half a tin of sweetcorn (about 100g): 270 calories

5 large mushrooms: about 70 calories

Garlic puree: About 40 calories

Tomato Puree: About 60 Calories

Coriander: about 20 calories

300g of chicken breast: about 510 calories

Which puts the whole meal at around 1800 calories, and then I'll have some fruit juice, or a beloved lucozade with it, which pushes it to just over 2000.

So for you to be doing 7000 a day, you'd need to be doing eating that quantity of food over 3 times a day, and that portion doesn't look as big as it actually is as the plate is quite large.

With regards to 5UB though, if you can increase the amount you eat, while trying to make everything yourself as well as a good gym routine, there's no reason you won't start putting muscle on and filling out a bit, it can just be difficult sometimes to adjust to eating a lot more.

What sort of onion are we talking here, 2 big onions would be a nightmare to eat 3 times a day!

Seems like a big over-estimation. Chicken breast is about 120 calories per 100g for a start. 100g of sweet corn has 100 calories.

I looked up the calories, so while it might not be 100% right, it'll still be fairly accurate as I wasn't just guessing. Most of the calories were listed on Asda's website, for example. I'm also not exactly small either at about 20 stone. :p
