Just upgraded to 6gb of ram and an SSD drive. The SSD drive is by the best upgrade I have ever made. It makes using a pc so much better. I was skeptical at first, but watching programs pop up quicker than I can take my finger off the left mouse button is amazing.

Anyone that is on the fence about upgrading to an SSD, seriously consider it. Well worth the money. Only problem for now is the size of the SSD.

A little confused as to why I am only getting 7.7. What do I need to max it out at 7.9? I know windows isnt the best benchmark tool but just wonder what hardware maxes it out.

all your ram is running at single channel, single bandwith and if you were running 4gb in dual channel configuration the bandwith would be twice as much. Quite noticeable on performance too imo.

Yea, the thing is. I had 2x2gb of ram to begin with then 1 stick died. I just bought 2x2gb of ram to make 6gb. Same ram.

Seems pretty fast. Was getting a good 40+fps in some games going from 2gb to 6gb. Ram upgrade was only £30.

Ok, what does that mean exactly? :p

Its nothing to worry about its was just worth noting.

Most applications will only gain about 5% performance increase going from single to dual channel.

However in applications that process large sections of data in the RAM the difference can be night & day.

All depends on what you use your PC for buddy.

cant some boards run dual channel on two sticks and single on the other yet? I know that if you have a 1gb and 2gb stick it will run 1gb and 1/2 the 2gb in dual channel and the other 1/2 2gb in single channel.

Would have thought it could cope with dual/single the other way by now as well.

I will also be upgrading with an SSD soonish, just waiting for some more price drops, perhaps near the summer period.
