Ok, so I have had some serious thinking time. I am debating moving out, BUT getting somewhere with the missus, so as we can afford to live a little.

Thing is, I have no idea where to even start. I have been looking at renting, and found an unfurnished ground floor flat for £300 p/m. I think that is good? Is it?

Also, what do I need to know?

I would love SKY, just for sports and to get SKY broadband, as there good. I have a TV, and TV stand, just no idea where to start really....

So, can you talk to me about it?

Where do you live, how much do you earn after tax?

Ground floor flats are more expensive to heat, in general.
You'll need all your furniture, kitchen stuff, etc. Can you afford to buy all that? Some unfurnished properties will include white goods, others won't.

do a search, there are lots of threads from people asking about associated costs of moving out etc.

Piece of string? Where? What's it like? Location? Any bills included?

I live in Sanbach, but my girlfriend is from Crewe, I don't mind driving to work, even though at times I just walk. So, would like to move to Crewe if anywhere. The place I found is Nantwich Road in Crewe. Also, I earn about £150 a week after tax and insurance, I could sell my car and use the bus?

Ok so you know your income, work out your outgoings (including furnishing the place) and see if it works out. I'd be surprised if you can't manage it but wouldnt get much in terms of money left over for luxuries etc.

how old are you? Is the girl working?

21, and yes she is, if we do go ahead, the bills would be split 50/50 as we think that is fair.

I think I have worked it out, reckon £300 a month is enough for bills? I.E leccy and the rest?

Do you currently live with your parents?

150 isn't a lot of considering the amount of out going you have to pay if you choose to move out?

Yes, but I won't be going alone.

So your whole income (equivalent of) would be taken up by bills and rent?
What happens if this girl walks out, you would be in a world of pain.

Imo you cannot afford it unless the woman is minted and willing to throw you a bone if things go wrong

After a quick skim read, and remembering your name from the "My Mum is a ****" thread, I suggest its a good idea (if you can afford it).

Do your homework and sums first before comitting. Bare in mind that most places to rent you'll need at least a months rent as a deposit, maybe more.

£300 a month for bills, well seems about right. I own a 3 bedroom house and got roughly these as outgoings monthly as bills:

120 - Council Tax
25 - Electricity Direct Debit
18 - Gas Direct Debit
30 - Water (two sets of water bills but as an average 30 a month is about right)
10 - TV License fee
35 - Virgin Media (Tv, Net, etc)

Thats just "the basics". Don't forget things like car insurance (if you pay monthly), Car Tax, AA Breakdown, Home Insurance, etc.

Do lots of research and make no rash decisions. Find a place that suits you, not because you were in a hurry to choose it/move out.

I worked it out at £300 p/m for rent, so £150 each, per month...so about £36.50 a week...and then £300 p/m for bills, so the same, so £75 each a week? Would that be enough?

Rememeber to budget for council tax, contents insurance, gas/electricity/water bills, BT line rental/internet/TV service, food... You won't see your money go far...

As per above?

the place your looking at (if i found the right one) is £299 pcm yea? that place needs a washing machine and furniture and stuff, it looks pretty decent though. make sure you go make a viewing of the property at somepoint. it is far easier to move into a furnished property though as you wont have to fork out £100's in just getting stuff for the flat.

well our flat costs about -
£120-£150 council tax
£150 contents insurance for the year
gas/electricity is about £45-55 on average pcm throughout the year
line rental is £11ish, broadband £15-20, tv £140ish for the year for the tv license plus sky or something would be atleast £30 pcm
food will be about £120 pcm.

gives you an idea of what you'd be paying i suppose per month. also you'll need extra cash to do stuff like go out cinema/pubs etc.

Insurance and TV License and what not would be monthly, so to lessen the huge blow, there is a charity shop in town, so I will have a butchers on friday, see what I can find, I might be able to get family to chip in, will give it a bash. But 50% of my weekly wage going into a 'bill acount' with the same amount from my missus should be enough shouldn't it? About £75 a week, each, so about £600 a month?

If your splitting everything 50/50 then you should be OK.

Theres a lot of threads on this forum now with people renting.

Mine consists of the following direct debits each.

Content Insurence / Rent / Council Tax
Gas / Elec / Water
Sky TV / BT Phone / O2 Broadband / T-Mobile Mobile
Food / Savings / TV Licence / Travel

When I first moved into my home I had a 3K loan to purchase the contents of the house. That was 4 years ago so it's all going smoothly and it's a piece of cake.

Try to set the bills to come out the same date and you won't get mixed up. Try to budget some money towards doing things, hobbies e.t.c to keep you active. Theres nothing like been stuck with no money to do anything.
