New Crysis 2 multiplayer demo on xbox live today.

I got this as soon as from Xbox.com as it wasn't on the Marketplace at the time.

I must say it has definitely been improved over the last demo (well, beta more like), but the collision detection is still frustratingly bad. I still find myself on regular occasions emptying a whole clip into a enemy, only to have him take me out with two shots (or in the worst cases with a bloody Pistol).

The game does feel much more responsive and the new map is great. However, I wish they'd abolish the fact that to get killstreaks you have to not only kill an enemy but run over to wherever he was and collect his dog tag instead of simply being able to go and hide to restore your energy and reload after a battle. Most of the time collecting these tags gets you killed and it would have been much better to simply be awarded the step towards a killsteak automatically. I am aware looking in the menu screens there is a perk that allows you to do just that, but its wasting an entire slot when it should imo be a mandatory part of the game.

The grenades are still useless, I don't think Ive ever, ever killed a single enemy with one and I use them all the time.

Apart from that though I am still pleased with with the "demo" and can't wait for the full game where I will be playing it mostly in Single Player (the very reason I loved the originals so much) although now having sampled the online side of things I will also be playing it online if they can sort out the bugs/issues. I think its a great alternative to Cod which I feel has got extremely stale, and the suit powers in Crysis make things much more interesting with the new gameplay options they provide.

I agree the dog tag thing is annoying. Kills should go straight to killstreaks and collecting dog tags should give you bonus xp or something.

I quite liked that aspect... means its a sell "kill streak" orientated game and puts a greater amount of risk associated with getting them. Seems like a good trade off to me.

I hate it. Mainly because I managed a 7 killstreak today but couldn't find 2 of the cog tags(i got a double kill with a grenade) so couldn't call in the gunship:(

Wow. The multiplayer in this is really fun. :D

Definitely gonna get this.

As for dogtags, I like it as it encourages players to get around the map rather than hiding in a corner and picking off people from range.

This.

And the reason I said as well (you get killed while frantically trying to pick them up).

A part of me wishes they'd release a SP demo, but a part of me doesn't as I don't wish to spoil the surprise for when I get the full game on the 24th (it will hopefully come a day early). For that reason I haven't watched any of the PC leaked version's footage on Youtube, well that and I don't support piracy, although I have seen a tiny snippet of SP Campaign footage in the official trailers and it looks superb. However, I don't mind seeing any multiplayer footage at all as its not the main reason for my purchase (I have never ever fired up the multiplayer modes on the originals) although if they can sort out the horrendous balancing and collision detection issues I will definitly be playing the multiplayer on Crysis 2 as I like the suit options and the new gameplay it provides and have really hated Cod since the series went downhill after Cod4, and would like something not only good online but something people actually play (I loved Avp Multiplayer but no-ones playing it anymore because too many people listened to the idiotic reviews and avoided it, which is a great shame as the game is actually pretty good, and great fun online too).

Just had a go of this and well its a bit crap really. I lost count of the amount of times I was gunning someone down and they just turn around and shoot me dead. I only managed to kill once in 20 mins and maybe that is me but it still bored me silly...

Ok. I've never logged more time on a trial. Been playing this everyday since released. Ranked up to the max and unlocked every weapon attachment except the Sniper Rifles Silencer - which being rubbish at Sniping is taking me a while. Things I've noticed...

- Sniper Rifle needs to be one shot = one kill, unless the enemy has Max Armour on in which case two shots max til they drop. Otherwise it completely renders the Sniper Rifle useless.

- Collision detection although much improved since the first trial still needs a lot of work.

- Getting "press click to zoom" stuck on your screen after watching the an enemy with a Sniper Rifle on the killcam even though you are not using a Sniper Rifle yourself.

- Missing sound effects after respawning.

- Very slow texture streaming performance, especially noticable when switching to the Pistol.

- Rare intances of lag.

- Although a matter of taste I think the Menu Music is an awful tune, very depressing. I was hoping they would use the tune from the October Beta (which sounded much better) with this second trail release - but they didn't.

A big list admittably but I will mainly be playing Single Player so most of these issues won't affect me that much. If they fix the Sniper Rifle's poor power and the wonky and unfair collision detection I can (unusually for me) see myself spending a lot of time online with this game too.

Great can't wait for a full **** off comparison between Xbox and PC (let me help you PC VERSION LOOKS BETTER THAN XBOX)

don't worry dude, all thats happened in the PC games section is Crysis II is being slated to high heavens for stupid things like not being DX11, etc. doesn't seem to make a difference that it looks great and has genuinely good multiplayer action.

Unless they're side by side you'd struggle to see the difference. The PC version will have the benefit of better Fps, more AA, and higher Resolutions but this is all very heavily dependant on your rig and as I said, side by side...

I think the main thing is the PC Elite have a Bee in their bonnet because the game is no longer a PC exclusive but the PC had Crysis and Warhead all to itself so why shouldn't the consoles get a slice of the action? I think Crytek should be appluded for getting the game running and looking that good on the consoles and the increased sales will help go towards a budget for another sequel. If the Elite Fanboys really think it looks that much better on PC then why dont they simply buy it on the PC and stop moaning? I really can't see the problem.

Of course thankfully most PC owners I've come across (myself included) are more open minded and don't think the same way as the Elitist Fanboys and Crysis 2 will be a great game irrespective of format.

I played a game of it.
Changes I found:
Melee no longer kills instantly. I had max armour on when somebody tried to melee me and it didn't kill me. This could be due to max armour or maybe due to the fact it seems they've removed auto aim from melee. Either way it's an improvement.

It doesn't take as long to kill somebody.

I got killed a few times by a pistol. This suggests to me the pistol is now overpowered.

i genuinely lol'd at this.

you got killed by a pistol so it's overpowered, did it ever occur to you they are a better player or you got shot in the throat which = instant kill

Well, in order to get the silencer for my Pistol I had to use it and found it took about 8 or more direct hits to drop someone, so if anything I would say unless you get a headshot its pretty useless, but I'm sure it will be good Single Player stealth weapon like it was in the original games.

+1 to this for talking sense! I agree, however I think the main difference is resolution on the PC and the obvious increase in framerate. :)

Thanks mate. I just wish other people would stop all this "my version's better than your version" crap and just enjoy a great game.

You should see the thread in the PC Games subsection then. :D

I think they're just bitter that we can have a Crysis game on console to be honest. At the end of the day the home consoles can all be had well under £200 and you'd never get a game running as well and looking as nice at the same time on a similarly priced PC.

Yeah, I stay away from the PC Games section if I can unless theres a particular PC only game I like as I hate all that Elitist rubbish. Thankfully, most people Ive come across on this forum are a lot more mature than the so called videogame websites I used to visit. The people here are very friendly, and seem only too happy to help someone out on occasion with great advice. Long may it continue.

I've got a PC that can easily run Crysis 2, but I prefer gaming on console mainly because you just buy the game whack it in and go, without having to worry about configuring or messing around with stuff to get it to work properly/at all. I've also found PC games to be very temperamental - sometimes crashing for no reason and I have had games in the past working perfectly fine one day and refusing to run the next for no reason. That said the PC community does have the game changing mods and of course better graphics if you have a good rig, so both have their advantages. For me though, I only play on PC if the game isn't out on console for the reasons I stated, but the thing that really gets me is the snobbery of some people (the PC Elite) and stupidity of others (console fanboys), but you can't judge everyone the same and I must say they are a small minority. I just think Crysis has really rallied up the troops so to speak as its always been seen as a PC game by some, although I wasn't upset in the slightest when Gears Of War and Splinter Cell appeared on PC so I really don't see the issue.

I also noticed Ign said the Ps3 version had a terrible framerate and muddy textures. On checking out some proper Ps3 Hi Def direct capture footage I can confirm the Ps3 version looks and runs exactly the same as the 360 version and looks awesome. I even like the cloak effect a little more on the Ps3, although I am still getting the game on the 360.

Anyway, back to topic, the game has got a 9/10 score in Oxm, and although I generally take reviews with a pinch of salt and make up my own mind, I have to say so far on that basis the signs are encouraging.
