Couldnt resist the thread title, sorry.

I've been attending the gym for 4-5 days a week for nearly 2 years now. I've come on leaps and bounds in terms of packing on muscle on to a big frame to begin with. I have a good split of all major compounds (bench, squat, deads, military presses) and then an abundance of isolations. My split consists of CHEST (e.g. 120KG barbell), SHOULDERS (e.g. 60KG barbell, 33.5KG dumbells) & TRIS, BACK (e.g. 120KG deads), BICEPS (e.g. 47KG curl bar), LEGS (e.g. 140KG barbell squats) and I tend to mix it up so my body keeps guessing. No abdominal excercises mind, I just dont see the point with my fat gut and love handles when I know cardio and diet are the main factor to consider first.

Problem: I spend 45mins-60mins per session ONLY on weights. I'm a smoker and like my food, plus work in an office environment. I hate running, the cross-trainer bores me.

If I bought an exercise bike for home, to do 30mins every morning before work, would I see a difference in body fat overall, or does it mainly tone your legs? I dont expect an easy option to lose body fat, but would cycling help? I appreciate diet is a big part of losing body fat, I tend to eat well during the week but maybe treat myself a little too much at the weekend to make up for it

It will raise your heart rate and burn more calories. It won't tone your legs or spot reduce fat. If you're still eating too much you wont shift any fat, diet is more important in losing weight.

That's a good bench, your deads and squats seem weak in comparison!
So you want to ride every morning and also do loads in the gym?

If you dislike the running etc but like weights, maybe try complexes? I've seen a few people doing them in the gym and getting a right sweat on.

I'm a fan of the rower myself. Much less boring and a decent full body no-impact exercise.

Unless you spend a fair bit you'll be disappointed with the bike itself. It won't tone your legs, it won't tone anything because the term toning is misunderstood. I personally don't think it's the best way to burn calories and there are more more efficient less time consuming ones that will have a better effect on your overall composition.

If you get yourself into a calorie defecit then you will loose weight. Eat your BMR and work yourself into a 3-400 calorie deficit per day.

This too.

Thanks guys, totally forgot about rowing! Will help with my back too :D

I lack confidence on deads and squats at the risk of really hurting myself, were as with the bench press the worst that can happen is drop the bar to my chest...and break my ribs :p Seriosuly though I spent earlier years doing a lot of machines and smiths before "upgrading" to real bench work, think I had a head start on my chest.

I need to get some photos on. Personally I think I'm a strange shape. Definitely not atheltic like a lot of you guys, I'm more built but also covered in a layer of blubber - mainly on the love handles and pot belly. Definitely obese, but I work damn hard when I am in the gym :(

Cardio and diet.

Get on the rower. Or join some circuit training sessions.

You may hate the cross trainer or jogging but just ask yourself how much you want it. Is it worth the boredom/pain?

I hate going on the cardio machines, long road rides or runs, always have, but to me its about the end product.
