By the end of last year my belly had increased to 38", and my waist up to 42", and hardly any of my clothes fit me anymore. I once used to be a 30-32" and started eating waaaay too many cakes, pizzas and chocolates over the last several years and quit doing karate a long time ago. (so I gradually gained 8-10 inch of fat around my gut, and it was horrible :()

It got a bit out of hand when I had massive stretch marks and pain between my chest and stomach with far too much fat hanging off, and after many failed attempts at getting rid of it. I have a very small build, and my body couldnt handle that much fat. I decided to start eating more carefully and exercising again in the third week of December.

Just over 2 months later, my belly is now at 32-33", and my waist is at 35" =D

I WILL BE SKINNY ONCE AGAIN!!!!! I still couldnt fit into my 30" waist jeans though, but I WILL be a 30-32 again!

Up until I were 19, I used to have a 28 inch belly and only 15% body fat because I used to practice karate excessively even though I would munch through 3 normal meals and 2 chocolate bars every day. 32" waist jeans and trousers would be falling off without a belt, and I bought several 30" ones that were the right size for me back then. Then when I started uni I completely stopped all exercise. Then after I finished uni, the fat started piling on :(

My birthday is in may, and I WILL be wearing my 30" waist jeans again by then.

Congrats :-) What diet are you on? I got to a similar-sized waist to yours (40"). I took up Slimming World in January, lost a stone in 7 weeks and I'm now back down to a 38". I used to be a 34" so that's my target.

I looked at both of the main slimming clubs. Weight Watchers seem to be about portion control (points system), where Slimming World is more about food groups. Some foods are unlimited, fruit/veg obviously, but also bananas, mushrooms and eggs. Then you can either have unlimited proteins for a day or unlimited starchy foods for a day and you can 're-spec' day-by-day. Then you got synergies which go by a points system like with WW, with approx 300 calories allowance every day of the 'bad stuff'.

Nice! I'm trying a low-carb diet, but general lifestyle is making it hard to stick to. It feels great when I do though, but I have a feeling it'll be a long journey to get to early 20s levels :D

Good on you mate, I think it's great when people lose weight. There's a guy at uni who I don't know at all but in 1st year he looked about 25st, since then I see him in the gym all the time and now half way through 3rd year he's looking more like 15st. I almost want to say nice work or well done or something but I don't know the guy at all

Not really a diet, I just stopped eating all the cakes and substituted them with cereal (mainly shredded wheat and weetabix)

And lots of fruit, particularly bananas to reduce the stomach pain.

And beans. Lots of beans. And just a few days of that my belly stops hurting.

Plus one or two normal meals each day, normally sandwiches, pasta, eggs, grilled fish fingers + chips, chicken, or frozen pizza.

Plus occasional chocolate when I get cravings. I substituted everything sweet for kit kats because they have low calories and are yummy.

Yes, I can eat pizzas and kit kats and still lose weight :D

For the exercise, its like 20-45 mins of karate grinding, usually 500 punches, lots of hip + leg stretches and exercise (My knees were literally dying from sitting in a chair all day, now they are supple and bouncy and I already feel several stones lighter , though I've only lost 2-3 Kg), and sit ups. I started doing press ups again a few days ago and I was really weak in my arms and shoulders, but that will be my next area to improve on.

I do that at least 3 times a week, just what I would ave normally done in a karate class but at home for free. Also I re learned the katas from youtube videos and grind through them several times as well, they are super nice and easy and work the whole body.

It was just a couple of hours ago that I measured my belly and got a 32 inch reading, and I was like WOOOOOOOT!!!!!

Motivation is easy when you feel like you have an angry cat living inside your stomach, with no symptoms other than pain with stretch marks, its not to difficult to realise you need to lose the fat.

also drink shots rather than beer .... so many less calories =]

I dont drink alcohol anymore, I had to quit all alcohol and caffeine because I have severe vertigo with hearing loss.

Thats also another reason why I started exercising again, because I had to start doing vestibular exercises to improve my balance.

I've had a few falls every year (no more than 2 or 3 a year) from drop attacks that happen from the inner ear, and I want to stop having them. Though I stumble around a lot just about everyday and have absolutely no balance, I hardly ever fall.

If I just drink a cup of normal coffee, I end up severely sick and needing a whole day in bed.

This time last year I was just over 15 stone. Weighed myself at my sisters last Friday I was 10 stone 10! And I've hardly been gym but now with low body fat I can actually see the muscle which was under there all the time. I'm pretty stocky build too.

I completely cut out all crap food! Except Sunday which was my binge day and started playing footy again 4 times a week. Oh and I stopped playing WoW haha! :) that usually help!

Well done tho bud, not many better feeling then trying old clothes on which are now massive for ya lol! :)

They arent massive for me though lol.

30" waist is like the smallest size you can get for mens clothes. But when my 32s stop fitting, its like :(, cant wear anything in my wardrobe now.

I never bought any new clothes, I've been wearing baggy elastic jogging pants for the last two years, they look crap, but they cover up the fat really well :D

The day you actually go and spend money on bigger clothes is the day you give up and tell yourself 'right, I'm gonna be an unhealthy lard ass the rest of my life'.

How was your belly bigger than your waist? How and where were you measuring yourself?

It wasnt?

Belly is underneath the chest above the belly button at the widest point, waist is the waist.

My waist was always larger than the belly.

Sorry wrote that the wrong way around.
what do you class as waist, so many people get it wrong

That's quite a worrying image tbh, as is a belly that was 7" bigger only 2 months ago lol

It's all relative! I am only 8.5 stone but I am actually quite 'fat'.

Yea my weight is fine for my height, I went from 62 kg which is right at the minimum end of what I should be for my height, to 75 kg which was still within ok limits for my height. But because I have a small build and narrow bones, I'm meant to be lighter than the average person of the same height, and all that extra weight was nothing but too much fat.

My belly went from 38 - 32-33 in 2.5 months, and I went from 42 - 35 around the hips below the belly fat.

I'm describing my measurements wrong :p

All I had to do was vastly reduce my calorific intake, I was really eating far too much cake before almost everyday. As soon as I stopped eating cake, completely replaced it for cereal, controlled my cravings with kit kats, and did some exercise, all the fat started reducing and going away :) The rest of my diet remained the same, just with fewer pizzas and more fruit.
