The sandy bridge motherboards replacement begins

This is the reply I got from OCUK regarding my RMA for the M4E

"Dear XXXX,

At this moment in time we have not received any instructions on how to proceed with this problem. The announcement has been made by the manufacturer and as soon as we hear any update on the situation we will let you know.

Regards,

James Bailey"

My RMA was ignored, which I find completely unprofessional - Its is clearly stated by Asus how this will proceed.

Can I sneak a question in here>? My P8P67 will arrive tomorrow, I just noticed I've only got one 4 pin 12 volt motherboard cable on my psu (to be updated in due coarse), any one reckon i'm gonna do damge using just the 4 pin into 8 pin connection, or getting an adapter from 4 pin molex into another 4 pin filling the 8 slot. Or get one of these 6 pin PCI e to 8 Pin atx converters?? Thanks in advance, really wanna get this rig going this weekend and not wait for funds and a new psu, thanks

I have a Gigabyte P67A-UD3, and filled out their online form but haven't had any word from them. The reply from OcUK was the same as Bolter01.

I'm just wondering how am I supposed to find out when replacements begin, or should I just keep an eye on internet forums..

It would be most unfair if new customers were given priority over existing customers. That is, the new stock will be for new customers, rather than for our swap outs.

One online retailer has had the following information on their website since Wednesday:
Quote:
"From tomorrow, we will have the latest B3 boards in stock starting with the ASUS P67 & H67 motherboards (not all mind) & a few H67 Gigabyte boards. The next day (Friday) some of the P67 Gigabyte boards will be here. Next week will be MSI".

You can pre-order now so this would indicate new sales have priority with that particular retailer don't you think?

I didn't think ASUS had detailed how they were going to handle this in the UK.

they haven't, ASUS UK have been disgustingly quiet on the whole subject, unlike ASUS USA, who put into place there replacement programme very early on.

It works. You have the option of 8 Pin or 4 Pin connector, just use the 4 socket away from the memory.
The manual explains how to do it.

I logged a call with ASUS over a week ago and finally got a call from them yesterday. They said I could swap my board but not until MAY!!!!!!
If new boards with the new chipset start appearing at retailers before MAY I'm going to return my board to OCUK for a refund and buy a new one.

Very unhappy with ASUS UK over this.

unfortunately I now find myself using ALL the SATA slots. I brought the ASUS USB3 + 2 x SATA 6GB PCI-e card and that causes the machine to not boot. I also have serious issues with Raid on the board....From a cold boot it does not see one of the drives, I have to boot 10-20 times before it see it.

Asus seem to have form on this. Found an el reg article from 2000 - Asus under fire over Intel recall. Something to do with i820s / Rambus.

---

If Asus (or any of the others) had any sense they would give priority to the swap outs. As the fault happens overtime then it is more likely that x% will fail next week, y% the week after .... May, z% have failed. By giving new customers priority they will increase the failure rate and increase the number of disgruntled customers with failed rigs.

Ahh the 820 chipset memory translator hub that allowed the 820 chipset which nativly supported rambus to run the much cheaper sdram. Intel found an issue with it under lab conditions and recalled it as the boards had just launched in small qty and the 815 chipset was round the corner (815 had native sdram support although they gimped it to only support 4 banks of memory).

The issue is not that serious or pronounced, very few users have actually seen it. You are unlikly to see the issue under normal use for many months.

Just contacted Asus. All they would do is to take contact details so that they can "contact me when there is further information".

If the supplier does start shipping v3 boards soon I will be hassling them instead.

If the boards were purchased in January, and they are not willing to swap out until May, then that it is very much more likely that there will be failures.

Common sense says to keep failure rate to a minimum by mopping up the (potential) defect boards now.

I find it inconceivable that they are not changing the boards for existing customers first. I'm sat here stunned and very angry. I'm afraid OCUK will have to bear the brunt of my displeasure and they have done nothing wrong.

I contacted Intel. Stated that neither the retailer (not OCUK) or Asus are willing to take responsibility, and that it would be unacceptable if B3 boards were given to new customers before existing customers.

Where exactly is the $700M going? Does the pot actually exist :D

Have OCUK said they won't help? I find this difficult to believe as thier customer support is excellent imo.
