I basically have a P55A-UD3 and there is something seriously wrong with it, only 2gig of my 4 is usable and this causes windows and games (my main usage) to run terrible.

I have a Radeon HD 5850 and this frequently crashes and recovers when im doing any gaming.

Ive updated everything to the latest drivers, so I believe this MB has a fault, or compatibility issues so will want to upgrade.

I have a i5 750 which I dont really overclock, and the above mentioned HD5850, Can anyone suggest a good board for gaming and smooth compatibility at the £80-130 mark?

Thank you in advance!

I suggest you run memtest to see if your ram is the cause of your problems. I do not think the board has any compatibility issues with your hardware listed.

Certainly the board will not be the cause for your graphic card crashing - that sounds like driver issues. If you have the latest drivers how did you remove the old ones?

If you ram are all fine I would suggest a completely new install of your OS, a clean install in other words which will require a hard drive format before the install of the OS.

I had big issues with the system on a previous thread, ran a mem test and its all working fine.

I took both ram slots out, put 1 into one slot and it didnt boot, put the same ram into the other and it worked, and listed 2 gig ram.
I swapped the two over and the same thing happened.

Then I put both in, and it listed 4 gig ram (2gig usable).

I am running a fresh OS, having freshly formatted about 2 weeks ago.

Everything is upto date. =/

Do you have a bolt down cpu cooler? Some boards will "lose" half the ram if the cooler is bolted down too tightly. Backing off the bolts usually cures the problem.

Not relevant if you have a pushpin cooler though.
You say the 5850 crashes as well. Do you have a decent psu installed?

If you have one slot not working then the fault is with the ram slot. RMA the board. Simple. Gigabyte have a 3 year RMA program.

I really do hate to whine on, but is there a better board out there for my HD 5850 and i5? £80-150 budget now. I will see if I can get a refund from my old one, I do a lot of business and work on my PC too, so really cant afford to lose it for a few days.

Normally takes about 5 working days. And yes I do feel your pain.

Your motherboard is not really going to change your gaming experience at all. Any motherboard with a PCi-e x16 slot will do the trick. Buy the cheapest one and RMA your current board. When it gets replaced either keep it and sell the other one or sell the replacement board.

You've got a P55A-UD3 which uses the P55 chipset - so you want the same again (Intel 1156 - P55 Chipset)
