So im currently on 50Mb Virgin fibre optic but am moving to a new property which is 2.5Km from the exchange and no fibre optic is laid out in the street im moving to :(

This means i'm going to have to get ADSL of some form.

Spoke to Virgin who want to charge me almost £30 as obviously im going to need a phone line that i don't even want as my mobile phone is more than enough for what i need.

Either way, i'm wondering who to go with. Orange seem to do a good deal with no connection fees and £19 for the unlimited broadband and telephone that i will never use.

Has to be unlimited for me to even think about going for it.

Looking at it, the maximum im going to get is 3Mb :( What a MASSIVE drop down from 50Mb.

are you able to check the exchange to see if they have any LLU services ?

don't go with virgin adsl, had a few friends regret doing it.

Don't go anywhere near VM ADSL mate, it's horrendous.
Best bet would be either Be* or Sky

Remember services can be advertised as unlimited but theres nothing stopping them (at the moment) hiding FUPs and monthly limits.

Me and my flatmate hammered a sky connection for 12months solid and never had a peep from them.

You will need a landline for ADSL and most are gonna charge you £10-13 per month for it. Check over on MSE theres a couple of cheaper line rental options.

Again tho check exchange see whats available

Be very wary of Orange's claim of unlimited, I left them because of their draconian enforcement of their "fair use policy". Suddenly throttled to dial up speeds, phoned them and it was because I went over 50gb in a month, no backing down in the slightest, told me I had to wait till the end of the month till it was lifted (few weeks away). This was after Xbox Live started offering HD films to rent, didn't take many demos and films to go over 50gb. Orange didn't care. They lost a customer for that.
I'm currently with Sky because their one of the few providers with LLU at my exchange and their unlimited is exactly that.

I'm in EXACTLY the same situation. I'm currently on 50Mb VM and soon to move to a property with an estimated 3Mb.
Thing that pees me off is that Virgin is available 3 miles east, and it stretches for 19miles!

VM were moving west and whilst an accident "where they blew up a street" bearly a mile away they stopped. They had just the last mile to go grrrrrr

Anyone got this new BT Infinity service? It's fibre optic and is due to be in my street by the end of this month.

39Mb download and 9.8Mb upload.

I'd be happy with that to be honest :D

Seem quite expensive?

BT have informed me that if i sign up for the ADSL service, they will auto upgrade us when the fibre comes in.

So its still an ADSL service but its fibre going to the cabinet, right?

Andy

Correct. I have FTTC via Enta - not sure who is or isn't an Enta reseller these days. I went from around 3Mbps to 30ishMbps down / 10Mbps up.

Sounds good, works out at £20 a month for the first 3 months and then goes up slightly and line rental is £120 for the year and i can get £65 cashback too.

Should only be on the slow speed for around a few weeks if it all goes as planned to FTTC.

Sounds the best i think :D

Andy

If you can't get the FTTC, you could also consider Xilo Pro 16 Home (£17 a month). It uses the C&W network, which is also unlimited, but.. yeah constrained by the long line you've got.

You get what you pay for. With BT you have a lengthy contract and traffic shaping.

No, it isn't ADSL. It is VDSL2+.
