Spec me freeview TV £200

Are you serious.... £200??? With all due respect I don't think you're going to have much of a choice of anything branded above a 22"

If I were you I think I'd go read some reviews on Amazon just to avoid any real lemons

Loads of branded stuff over 22" for around the £200 mark, you can get a 26" Samsung or Sharp for 200 - 219. Granted not the best TV's in the world but all are branded and bigger than 22".

Fine... Well why don't you make some specific recommendations then?.. you know, make and model number.... at least that'll give the op something positive :)

It's not hard taking a quick look on the internet or keeping yourself updated with prices, much better than giving out inaccurate information....

SAMSUNG LE26B350
SHARP AQUOS LC26SH7E

All from shops you can walk into and buy from.

Well my budget is strictly £200 max and I have been looking at.
22" Widescreen TV with DVD Player and Freeview £149 LTV-2287WHC

It seems to have FULL HD 1080p and freeview but even has a DVD Player.

I seen an LED 22inch but was only 720p and cost about £180 would it look any better even though its smaller resolution?

I did actually take the time to check pricerunner and pricegrabber before my 1st post.

...and on further investigation it looks as if the Samsung is end-of-line, so sub£200 supply is limited to just one retailer who may not be listed on the price comparison sites I checked. Also, the Sharp appears to be more than the OPs budget... so was I really wrong?

Yes, clearly you didn't look hard enough.

Doesn't matter if the Samsung is end of line, when you only have £200 to spend on a TV you have to accept some major compromises.

Your original point was branded sets over 22" inch don't exist, they do.

Anybody who looks at pricerunner before anywhere else is likely being ripped off most of the time...

To the op: If you are OK with 22" than you will get yourself a nice TV for £200.

I recently bought a 22" LG HD Ready (so not full HD but meh it seems to scale well when i feed it full HD from my PC via HDMI) for £160, not a special offer, current model just walked into a high street based AV specialist (very well known internet presence too) and bought it from them.

Does the job nicely.

TBH, i'd avoid the one you have posted as even though its a bit cheaper at £149, DVD players are about the cheapest thing you can buy these days and having it integrated, when it goes wrong (and it will) you have to send the whole TV back, also ime, it's just not worth buying very cheap TVs, iirc Digimate are a supermarket own brand. While the panels are mostly OK, the menu systems and general interactivity is always poor, as is any technical support should you need it.

EDIT: No, they are the budget brand all the C retailers have, now I remember. I used a DGM 19" TFT once, it was OK, certainly not brilliant though.

It's too difficult to choose as I dont know what is going to look better.

26inch sharp FREEVIEW LCD TV LC26SH7EBK 1366 x 768 £180
Samsung LE22C450 22" HD Ready 50Hz LCD TV with Freeview 1366 x 768 £164
LG Electronics M2280DF 22" LED HD TV 1920 x 1080 £180 built in Freeview DVB-T tuner and CI slot is that freeview the same?

They are all different as they are either 26/22 or lcd/led but LG seems the best but stated Freeview DVB-T tuner

thoughts?

My money would be with the LG as its a full HD panel (meaning more pixels to use), plus I just like LG TVs, I think the menu and interfaces are one of the better ones.

Yes its a normal Freeview TV, the "CI Slot" just means you can buy a PCMCIA style card to put a viewing card into for Topup TV, any decent TV will have one.

Depends though I guess, another 4" of screen space with the Sharp for the same price seems a good buy too.

All depends on what you want it for. If Image quality is towards the top of your list, it has to be the LG, if its size alone, then depending on what reviews say about the Sharp (never used one so I don't know about them really) them maybe that's the way to go.

Also, not sure where you are getting your prices from, but if you can get that LG for £180 its a bargain, cheapest I can find it is £200 as its an LED (edge i suspect) backlit TV, so more desirable.

Thanks for fast reply, think I will go for the LG Electronics M2280DF 22" LED HD TV as its from a retailer I have used before whereas the sharp is from some store which I have never used before so prefer ordering online. Try looking again with the above details ;)

Thanks again for fast reply!

Oh wait, wait, I just looked properly, that LG "TV" is one of a wave of unusual products being put out at the moment where they describe them as "monitor/TV".

Now, they are ok, however most reviews suggest they tend to have poorer than usual speakers compared to stand-alone TV's, thye also tend to have image processing built in suited to monitor usage, i.e. not geared to take the stupidly low quality images of Freeview, meaning things look more blocky. BUT if you intend to use it as a monitor as well then it will be superior to a standard TV.

I'm not saying don't buy it, but you should know that these Monitor/TV products are generally considered inferior to a proper TV simply because they aren't eared to make the most of our terrible Freeview (same as if you plug a freeview box into a standard monitor).

TBQH, if you can go to a shop and view them, I really would.

Its purely for freeview tv in my bedroom which is quite small anyway. So it looks like the 26inch looks even more appealing. I mean is there even any point in getting 1080p if the channels only broadcast in 720p? I dont know if they do thats why I am asking whats best for my £200 as I want the best option for watching freeview :)

Lol freeview is 576p :p truly terrible stuff, but that's where a "proper" TV is better as they have far more filters and image enhancers to take some of the blockyness away

Genuinely I don't know much about Sharp TV's, but I wouldn't worry about the fact its a 720p panel, sure i's nice to have full HD, but if you are only gnna plug a cheap upscaling DVD player into it, then DVD's aren't HD either. And HD ready TV's can still process 1080i, they just downscale the image to fit their lower resolution.

In fairness, the cheapest I can find thta is £220 (I found the LG for £190), so if you can buy it from a decent enough source for £180 its a proper bargain.

Thanks very much for all your information and yea I think I will go for the 26inch as it means I can pick it up from a local store :) and meets my requirements for simply watching freeview TV in the bedroom as thats all it will be used for.

I picked up the Sharp i talked about above for one of the screens in my Pinball machine, for the money it seems fine, speaker wise (once you've turned on virtual surround) it sounds ok.
