do you buy series box sets?

babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Lost, 24, A-Team, Dukes of Hazard, Airwolf, Scrubs, Cold Feet, The Lakes, Waking the Dead. None of them bought at full list price though. Thinking about 2 and a half men as the next series.

Me and the wifey split the chores and i got landed with doing the ironing, so i usually disappear on a sunday afternoon/night for a few hours with a few tinnies and the waashing pile and do a few episodes at a time.

I just realised, I do have quite a few box sets :o

Red Dwarf
Auf Wiedersehen Pet
Deadwood
Babylon 5
Blackadder
Alien Quadrilogy
Laurel and Hardy
24
Boys from the Blackstuff
Citizen Smith

I'm sure there are more...:o

lol when's my edit of the original title going to kick in?

can i just ask what point there is in buying the original format and then converting to mkv, bledd?

I want to support the makers, and I want them at my fingertips

Don't tend to buy series box sets, i love film box sets though.

There are of course exceptions, series which MUST be owned, like BSG and Band of Brothers and Firefly :D

I've got all the box sets for Highlander tv series and Red Dwarf and all the the x-files box sets except the final season but that's it.

There are others i'd like to buy such as Lost but it can all get quite expensive.

I normally wait until they drop in price, The Sopranos boxsets annoyingly seem to have held their price for ages, only watched the first season so far! Looking at getting the complete 1-6 boxset when the price is right.

The only set i've really splashed out on was the Blu ray set of Battlestar Galactica, an amazing series imo that i'll go back to every few years, so worth buying for me.

Also bought:
Band Of Brothers : Blu Ray.
Dexter: S1 and S2 : Dvd.
The Shield: S1 : Dvd.
Fringe: S1: Blu Ray.
24: S1-S6 : Dvd.
24: S7 : Blu Ray.

Rented via Love Film:

Sopranos: S1: Dvd
True Blood: S1 and S2: Blu Ray.

Would like to watch all of the above to completion and will eventually I hope, the Shield boxsets are quite cheap so i'll pick them up individually.

Loads of others i'd like to see, such as The Wire, The West Wing and would like Firefly on blu ray as it's one of my all time faves.

Too much to watch not enough time, also my T.V optical block is currently winging its way to the USA for repair so I'm stuck with my 24 inch Dell PC monitor for T.V,Blu ray and Dvd until it returns.:(

They are showing the entire Sopranos on Sky Atlantic at the moment. I watched it a few years ago when it was on FX I think. It was on four days a week if I remember right. Great series!

I have a shelf full of serieses that I like..

Babylon 5 - Ultimate Collectors Edition
The West Wing - Complete
Inspector Morse - Complete
Rumpole of The Bailey - Complete
House - Seasons 1 + 2
Hustle - Seasons 1 - 4
CSI - Seasons 1 - 6
Firefly

Think that's about all.. Bought most of them cheaply.. I think the CSI set was the most pricey as it was 'complete' at the time, and cost be about a ton. The rest, well, here and there when I see a good price..

I try and wait unless it's something I really want. I do remembe rpaying £60 for each X-Files box set as they came out on DVD tho

I used to buy the individual boxes for stuff like Star Trek and Stargate but when I then saw how cheap (and space saving) the complete sets were in comparison to how much I had paid for the individual boxes I decided never again. I managed to pick up the complete X-Files (sans The Lone Gunmen which you think they would have added in), Buffy, Angel and Babylon 5 all for under £50 each which I felt was a very good price considering the quality of the shows.

The other benefit of buying the complete box sets is that they look nicer on the shelves. I was sorely burnt in the past when the Star Trek boxes were changed from the large plastic cases to the crappier cardboard cases which means I have all the shows up to season 5 of DS9 in plastic and the rest in paper, it looks horrible.

Stargate also did this changing of the box for season 10 :(

(yes it annoys me that much).

My wife wont buy the Disney films on blu ray because the boxes wont match with all the other ones which are dvds. The only one she got was I think Beauty and the Beast which was released in a DVD box. You have no problems in comparison lol.

I got all the Red Dwarf series 1-8 ( + the mini series ) and I'm working on collecting the Bottom collection... ( awaits abuse )

i tend to go on spending sprees a few tiems a year on box sets, i snapped up black books, the it crowd, the thin blue line and black adder last time i was in hmv, but a good bet is to go into CEX they allways have boxsets and if you dont care about them ebing second hand its sweet, there allways in good nick and the sex and the city boxset all 6 series only ran me 24.99, happy days.

Now if only the orriginal star trek and pokemon was as cheep as the first season of rude dog and the dweebs (1.28)

I have the Boston Legal box set which cost £60, works out £12 a season and is so worth it. The writing is awesome and Shatner is Shatner.

I am planning to get Battlestar Galactica on Blu Ray at some point soon. Found somewhere that gives me Nectar points and accepts an NUS discount.

I tend to buy the new seasons of Dexter as soon as they're out. Once watched they are straight onto the bay to get my money back.
