I need some advice with some transactions that I messed up. I sold two items but sent them to the wrong buyers. I thought this would be a simple matter of getting the buyers to send the items to each other and I'd cover the postage costs etc.

This was not to be.

Buyer B sent buyer A's item on to a friend in Dubai WITHOUT OPENING THE PACKAGE FIRST TO CHECK THE CONTENTS. Buyer A has since returned buyer B's item to me which I have since resold. I have also fully refunded buyer A, so that's one half of the issue resolved.

The Dubai problem remains. Buyer B is going to price up the postage to get the item returned to me, but am I liable for the entire cost since Buyer B also made a mistake in that he didn't check the package before sending it on?

You need to pay for the cost.

He hasn't "made a mistake" he assumed the item was the correct one, as I'm sure most people would do and sent it on. You can't penalize him for this.

It's unfortunate it's going to cost you, but next time be more careful!

This is why i refuse to sell anything on ebay. Allow that.

and yes it's your mistake :(

Either refund the entire postage amount including to and from Dubai or refund the items cost and write it off completely. Do what ever is cheapest.

Basically, I don't think it's your problem. I know you had dispatched it to the wrong address, but they should have contacted you to ask about returning the item and refunding the postage cost.

Since Buyer B sent Buyer As item, unless you get the package back there lies a problem.

I can conclude that you should really only be refunding from Your House > Buyers House > Back to Your House as it's your mistake, not from there house to someone elses house as it's their mistake. It's a mistake on all parties. You will still need to refund fully Buyer B's item + Postage.

I don't see how you're liable for the postage both to and from Dubai, you sold the item to someone in the UK... it's their own fault if they didn't check it before sending it half way across the world.

This. Tell them if they return the incorrect item you will refund the UK postage that they paid and ship out the correct item to them or offer to refund the uk postage and refund the item cost when you recieve it back.
