It was taken with an electron microscope which doesn't pick up colour, it could be pink.

It's not on NASA's site yet, it's only been sourced from the NASA scientist's own website and then publicised by FOX NEWS which is how it entered the public's domain I guess.

I don't think it's something significant at this point in time, otherwise it would have been on the bigger Science sites and journals.
