xfx black edition or corsair hx 850

Not much really. Both superbly made PSU's. Corsair will have a better resale value though.

The corsair hx 850w features an 80 amp +12v line, 70 on the xfx, hx has six pcie connectors supplied. The cabling on the xfx looks a lot better though, my main gripe with the hx 850w is the flat cables, other than that small point ive been really impressed with mine.

Actually I'm pretty sure that the HX 850 was made by CWT. But I would probably agree that the deciding factor between them will cable features and price.

thanks guys ,what does the 80 amp +12 volt line mean?

80 x 12 = 960W.

On Johnnyguru, the Corsair HX850 is also 70A on 12 volts.

so that's 840 watts.

Having a high power on the 12 volts means that you can feed a lot of juice to the graphics card(s) without overloading the PSU (but dont exceed the PSU limit). It's designed to handle triple SLI comfortably.

Look up Johnnyguru for both reviews. In either case, these looks like cracking power supplies.

+1

The XFX has 72A on 12V iirc.

So its 864W.

So can actually put out more power than is stated - but only briefly.

They will run most cards in tri sli, just don't go chucking 3 GTX 480's at it.
Sea Hear > 3-way GTX 480's

Quad Sli 480's are just silly > 1.5kW

They were first released over a year ago, recently (last few months) they've been unavailable pretty much anywhere in the UK, I thought this was because they were EOL, but thankfully it looks like they're becoming available again soon.

The Overclock 3D review showed the Corsair can actually output 1000W fairly solidly, however the fan noise at this kind of output will be quite high. :p
