Company Car choice.

Just out of curiosity, why is the Renault Kangoo van on the list of choices? (Not that I'd say opt for it!)

Why would you possibly do that in order to save just £45 a month? What is the point? Even the insurance on his own car is probably almost that!

Your suggestion makes absolutely no sense at all.

If you wanted to drive a decent driver's car perhaps?

Because you pay less tax and it was meant to be as a last resort if one of the lorries broke down you could send a driver out in it with orders that simply couldnt wait.
We have moved into a shared depot with 4 other businesses owned by our parent company, so we now have access to 80 odd other commercial vehicles that are on site should "ours" break down, so I can discount that.

You are missing the point, there are no other options offered, no cash alteratives, and no option to use your own car and claim the mileage back.

They dont want people running a hundred different models across the group, and they dont want to mess around processing mileage claims either.

Besides which, WTF do you want with a "drivers" car when you are at work? You are working, as long as it has plenty of room, isnt noisey and can keep up on the motorway without ragging its nuts off, what else matters?

I wasn't aware that your job was driving. I assumed the car was a 'perk' as part of your package.

Its not driving, but I do spend a fair bit of time selling, traveling between sites, looking after other depots etc etc.
Hence the need for a car.

Having driven both the astra and megane in similar specs, would go for the megane without any question, far more interesting to drive and a better interior imo. I found the astra just plain dull.

Also found the seats in the astra particularly uncomfortable for a long period (and thats someone with a young-ish back!) :p

Exactly the same experience here.

I'm only 23 and those seats are a nightmare for my back... not many seats are so terrible!

Whereas the Megane is wonderful in comparison... comfort-wise.

The flip-side is... I know people who have no issue with the seats at all, some in fact find them comfy... so it's a personal preference thing.

The engine in the Astra is a bit better though, as is the suspension.

Can you not go round the 3 dealerships and get yourself a drive in each??

So get one as well? Seriously, its FORTY FIVE QUID a month.

Get some perspective here? I'd have one at 45 quid a month just for the lulz.

Same... £45/month is nothing when you're talking about getting a brand new, maintained car includive of personal usage...

If there was a cash alternative then of course it would be silly if you like your cars... but with the choice being caompany car with personal use for £45/month or nothing + that £45/month in your pocket... it's a no-brainer.

Even if you only use it to commute, that's cheaper than the fuel I'd imagine :S

I would get it + have my own car for the weekends...

I've already got a new Astra on hire, its only a base model 1.6, but its ok.

I was just asking to make sure I wasnt overlooking some major flaw in my choice of car.

Nice to see that Vauxhall haven't improved the seats 1 bit, used to get chronic back ache in the days when I had a Vectra CDX.

I would choose :
Honda Insight 1.3 IMA ES.

because its a car I would otherwise never own, the most unusual and expensive also I think plus it probably does the best mileage which makes the best choice from that viewpoint? Plus I like Hondas so I think its likely the best made also.

The oil price isnt going to come back down much imo
