Come on with the pyramid! Did I miss the ;) thread for these or was there not one? Well only a day to wait to see performance.

This big...

when we say 6990 here, do we mean 6990X2? (are they the same thing?)

It's the same thing but it's not going to be called 6990X2. The last time AMD/ATI used the X2 suffix was on the 4870X2. The next dual GPU solution after that was the 5970 and now the current one will be called 6990.

edit:
(oh bloody heck....no one replying...time for google :p)

A 6990X2 would be immensely powerful! If you're comparing back to the old naming system this is more like 6970x2 as its essentially 2x 6970's combined into one card to make 6990

Many thanks for your replies

I have one final question - about the size, Will this card fit in this case:
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-023-OE&groupid=962&catid=1532&subcat=

Once I know this, I will start buying my components for the rig :D

Starting with:
Intel Core i7 980X 3.33GHz (Gulftown) Extreme Edition (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
Gigabyte X58 G1 Assassin Intel X58 (Socket 1366) DDR3 Motherboard - Gaming Series
Corsair Dominator GT 6GB (3x2GB) DDR3 PC3-16000C8 2000MHz Triple Channel Kit (CMT6GX3M3A2000C8)

I will not think about buying other component parts until I get an idea of the 6990 price :)

Cheers for your help AndyH_Lufc and timko!

Beast of a spec :P

Make sure its all nice and visible!

It won't be £615, similar places also listed other cards early at ridiculously inflated prices.

But keep in mind AMD have never gone near 2x top single gpu pricing with their dual gpu card, also keep in mind how much Gibbo/others were told the 6970/50 were for release, then literally in the days before release the price was cut. Its called AMD being sneaky gits and peeing around with Nvidia's plans more than anything else.

The price Gibbo paid isn't necessarily the price they'll have paid once a price change comes through the channel 30minutes before launch ;)

I'm frankly expecting as many places to try it on with pricing as much as possible, see if they sell at a stupid price and get away with some daft profits on a few cards.

As long as sane UK buyers actually see awful prices and show some self control, prices should be good, unfortunately uk buyers never ever show any self control :(

Well said mate I'll be showing self control simply because 615 has caught me off guard... Wait that's not self control :p. I really hope your right tho I do remember the absurd prices the 5970 was being priced at

don't know, think £600 will be about right.
That's only £500+VAT

4870x2 rrp £330, how much I got one for a week after launch, £330, cost of 2x 4870 1gb's which weren't out yet, £420.

5970, rrp £440, very little supply, horrible gouging by stores, £550ish on launch, cost of 2x5870 1gb's £600.

6990 rrp ??? no issue with supply of 6970 cores, at all, not even slightly, no price gouging on the 6970/50, cost of 2x 6970's £530.

Judging on previous releases the RRP will be somewhere in the vicinity of £425-450, I'd still expect slower supply for a couple weeks so you'd be mad to buy till theres consistantly stock on the shelves and the prices adjust to that.

Basically I expect similar pricing to 5970 as it would have been without TSMC screwing up a 6 week supply of cores.
