Wifes looking for a replacement car and is pretty taken with the above

Looking at models circa 2006/7 specifically the 6.1 srt versions as we don't want a diesel and want something with decent performance

Obviously fuel economy is pap id imagine sub 20mpg but is there any other major issues with these? And I assume LPG is a viable option?

Any decent alternatives around the same age and around 15/16k

Why do you specifically want to avoid the diesel?

my wife hates oil burners. combination of sounding like a tractor the smell when filling up  and just generally the fact that a petrol burns more of my money which seems to give her almost orgasmic pleasure.

to be honest she specified it must be a petrol and not slow the srt seems the logical choice. parts prices dont seem to bad from what i've looked at so far consumables are cheap going by euro car parts. it seems like a bloody reasonable car for running costs considering the performance (other than fuel :) performance wise, going by the book figures its going to be more than a match for her LCR and i'm sure although we'll both miss the cupra a hemi v8 and some straight pipes will more than make up for it

seems to tick all the boxes which makes me think there must be something horribly wrong with them that i'm overlooking.

Those parts prices are likely to br for the diesel models and perhaps the 5.7. The 6.1 has different suspension, brakes, gearbox and 4wd system.

I can't help but think the running costs would be eye watering and didn't they only sell a few each year? What's wrong with the other big engine they do, 5.something litre?

Approximately 60% of your threads on this forum are you complaining about how expensive fuel is, yet now you want a 6.1 litre V8 Jeep? Seriously? :D

SRT's cost big bucks to run!

Do yourself a favour, divorce the wife and get the next one a Clio.

Apples and oranges

This is to replace the Wifes 20 something mpg cupra she covers 6-10k a year so going from say 25 mPg to 20 is not the end of the world

Whereas the current 4p a litre fuel increase over the 100k miles the taxis munch a year is a lot more concerning I best start a thread to moan about it

20mpg out of an SRT is optimistic!

More like 12-15 mpg.

Yea I was going to say. When even Maz reckons its a money pit you know its a bad idea!

10k a year at 15mpg based on £1.50 a litre is almost 400 quid a MONTH in petrol!

Is it really worth it?!

Still at least THAT £400 a month is going to sound better than £400 worth of shoes

Anyone think LPG would be a bad thing on one of these? Or anyone have an alternative suggestion?

Yes what amazing logic there, I'm sure she spends £400 a month on shoes. If she DOES, then she isnt going to stop just because she has a Jeep to put petrol in, so thats £800 a month now :p

TBH I agree, silly logic as well as the wifey is just going to still spend money on shoes/clothes etc.

From reading into it and looking at it these are seriously expensive cars to run, quicker than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S!

Plus converison cost.

If you are going to burn hundreds of quid a month so your wife can go shopping at least burn it in something thats actually half decent.

Very quick big busses tbh road and track say a 13.2 1/4 mile

But other than the fuel I'm not cOnvinced that its on the same league for running costs as say a range rover etc. It's a simple big v8 making an unstressed output in terms of bhp/litre nothing like air ride or fancy e diffs or anything that would mEan it can't just be looked after by myself and my Indy

That would be very useful on her way to Tesco. Hope there are no corners on the way though, mind you the performance will be useful to get back up to speed after slowing to 10mph in order to negotiate said corner*

*This is based on the 2005 model I hired in the States, although it was a V6 it would have taken a LOT of polish to fix the fundamentals :p
