Want to go away from Sunday to Tuesday and was thinking about Edinburgh but prices spiraled out of control (due to having to fly).

I'm based in Bristol so I'm looking at areas/places like Swansea, Pembrokeshire, Falmouth, Plymouth, Bideford etc. Will be driving.

Just looking for some nice scenery, walks, cafes, shops, decent restaurants as well as all your usual activities - museums, castles, maybe even crabbing etc.

I've been to Falmouth and Swansea before, albeit briefly, so just after some recommendations of other places to go to. We'd more than likely stop in two separate B&Bs and travel a bit in between (ie go to two places).

Also, is Land's End worth it, even just for a quick stop off picture-by-the-sign? And if so/not, where else is worth a visit that's near there?

I was going to say avoid Bideford at all costs :p (unless you're a beach person, in which case Westward Ho! might be worth a quick visit)

Tintagel's actually a very nice place, or is that a little far? Usually pop down there on bank holidays for a day out - highly recommend Pengenna pasties for a quick bite to eat!

On a general North Devon note; the weather is alright here at the moment, quite sunny.

But yes, avoid Bideford!

There are many more seaside areas around here though - I'm struggling to remember the one that's pretty good for crabbing (I can see it in my head just not the name!)

That's why I've heard of Bideford - because of you :p.

There really is naff all to do here mate. The beaches are nice, but living here it's no longer a novelty. Saunton/Croyde is another good bet for beaches, very popular with summer tourists. I just can't think of anything to say that could possibly promote North Devon, I hate the place that much :(

Gower peninsula, near Swansea.

St David's right on the west coast of Wales, far but really nice

Tenby, as above

Lyme Regis

Borth

Torquay

Lots of options!

What about going the other way to the cotswolds?

Would do, but we're already doing that in the summer (that's my birthday present along with... an off-road Segway rally!).

Probably swinging towards Plymouth area at the moment just because it seems there's plenty to do around there.

Is Land's End worth a visit? From Google Maps it looks like a car park and a probably overpriced cafe.

When I was there about 30 years ago you could put your home town onto this sign thing, along with the distance in miles and have your photo taken. That was AWESOME. Apart from that, from what I remember it is just a car park and a cafe. I was a bit underwhelmed and I was only 8.
