Is University really some of the best years of your life?

I feel like I missed a trick not going to uni... :/

ditto

my brother and sister went and have told me some stories of some fun times but then none of them have been travelling like me and i have no debt like them. i still haven't completely written off the idea of studying for a degree part time over a number of years but my parents and siblings all got firsts so the pressure would really be on :(

It's massively unappreciated while you're there, but as soon as it's all over and the dust settles, you've got a routine and are setting up for the future, you'll realise how amazing those years were.

Need to perfect my time-machine.

1st year yes.

2nd year less so.

3rd+ when your working pretty much all the time, no.

[Above applies to proper courses, Msc, Meng, and whatever the medic/vet one is]

Depends on you. I'm at Uni now and would rather not be. Even though the course isn't bad I simply don't enjoy being a student. If you're more sociable, more tolerant and arn't so worried about money then of course you might very well enjoy it!

I much prefer work to university and indeed school. You have money, evenings and weekends are free for the most part unlike school/uni where you often have to work, expense accounts to enjoy free evenings out. Sure there's stress, but who wants a job with no stress? Maybe I've been lucky lol.

Agreed. I have a far, far better lifestyle now than I did at Uni. Uni was good fun and hard work and I'm glad I graduated but best years of my life? Haha, not a chance.

It's been the worst years of my life, I was much happier in Sixth form. I can't wait to finally get out of York Uni and leave all string of **** ex-GFs in the past.

I really enjoy it: I love my course, have made some great friends and really like the place I live. Having said that, I'm looking forward to graduating and starting work. I can't wait to actually have weekends and evenings free and some disposable income.

Uni was great. I got laid, did a lot of drinking, played a lot of football....It was hard work but I learnt skills, had a year in industry on sandwich and I got a degree that's allowed me to do things I wouldn't have otherwise done. My only regret is that I didn't make any lasting friendships. Plenty of mates, had a great time in halls and the places I lived but they were just people who were at the same uni and had vaguely similar interests, not a patch on my mates who I grew up with and still see a lot of.

Absolutely, definitely, indubitably YES.

My first year of uni was probably the best year of my life ever.

I have very, very happy memories of 1999.

I will not explain or go into detail. However, if you don't understand how or why uni can be the best time of your life, all I can say is you're doing it wrong.

I'm living at home, and even though I'm the sociable type there's always that feeling that I'm missing out on random stuff like going to a friends room and just talking until the early hours in the morning. I don't expect to make many 'friends for life' (although its early days). So far (started my first year) it's been pretty much the same as my Sixth Form years (which were pretty awesome) whilst doing a subject I love. Living at home can be a drag at times but for the most part it's down to what you do.

I don't understand why it ends there, that's what gets me.
It's as if people in this thread give up after uni and they cannot possible have a greater time.

Usually involves drinking and sorts of which people do after uni anyway so, uhhh... if you can't have a better time after then I would be worried!

Yes okay, you could be pedantic and mention the title saying "some of".
