Just bought a pair of HS1A's and plugged them in to experience this audio orgasm for myself.... Dream fell out the sky pretty fast when the loudness of them with everything on my computer on highest and the headphone volume control on the highest. It doesn't sound any louder then a conversation in a library. Anyone else experienced this? Is their something im stupidly missing out on?

thanks.

i would say that their Impedance of 32Ω is you problem get a sound card with amp or a seprate headphone amp an you will be sorted.

Your problem most likely is the sound chip most sound cards should be able to drive them without a amp although they will sound better( more detailed etc) with a amp

I would get the xonar DG to try with, yeah fine maybe the sound qaulity can't quite match that of say the d1 xonar, but the amp will make up for it..

So yeah get a xonar DG to try it with.

I personally have the steel series v2 which does need around the same to power I don't have no amp and my dx makes them too loud tbh.

Well that's very unlucky for you how much you wanting to spend, vos it looks like you need a pcie sound card like the xonar dx, which I think is better option than the eqivslant creative depending what you want etc

Not that much unfortunately. I may return them and buy the HS1 because of the built in amp. Headphones are the only real piece of fairly decent quality sound gear I regularly use so paying over the odds for a sound card is a little silly atm.

Get a FiiO E5, if you can't afford a Xonar DX, and don't have a spare PCI slot. That will give your headset a volume boost. Watch out for fakes though, they are common on the famous auction site.

32 ohm headphones/headsets are easy to drive, and wouldn't need a headphone amp normally. On-board audio is pretty poor for driving even 32 ohm headphones to loud volume. Cheaper sound cards will fair better, but wont match a £50 sound card, such as the D1/DX. DG is the only exception really, due to the headphone amp.

I would have loved to have used the DG. That was my original plan.... My fault for ordering a mATX board and a tri slot cooler I suppose... :(
Is the FiiO E5 definitely a warranted option without degrading the quality? If so I might play around the internet for one ;) (not sure if I can mention the shop)

FiiO E5 is just an amplifier, no degrading of sound quality at all. Besides you are using on-board audio, not much there to degrade! :o Sorry, just kidding there. :)

It's a good option for a volume increase. Quite a lot of people use them with headphones that require, or benefit from an amplifier, Goldring NS1000, for eg. For £15-£20, it's good value. E5 does use a battery, so that will need to be charged. Not sure how long a charger lasts

Other alternative, would be to get the USB version instead.

well, how about the USB version of the corsiar HS1 ? no needf or the sound card than, or get a usb DAC+AMP like the Fiio E7

as on board is pretty rubbish anyways...as I found out. remember crap in and crap out :P. even through the corsiars are not top end headphones, they will still benfit..

like marsman said the E5 is just a amp it will only amplifie ( damm spelling) the singnel it gets. so it will sort out the quietness issue...not the quialty I m affirad. ( saide note the E7 is about the same price as the DX :p) so back to sqaure one.

so you said you returned the HS1A? as I said in my first words get a usb based headset like the HS1 (corsiar) thats your best bet.

It is a good point :D

I think I'll get an external AMP for now. I'll be getting a high quality sound card and a full sound system when I move where I'll use more then headphones.

Had the same problem with them being quiet and base being to flat. These headphones are rated at 32 ohms yet when i had my soundcard amp set to 64ohms the headphone would sound like they loosing power and the volume would jump up and down.
Soon as i set my essence st to high gain (+18db for 64~300 ohms) my problems went away.
