Interested to see how many people have had their iPhones replaced by Apple under whilst in Warranty, the reason for replacement and what your experience has been like.

iPhone 3G:

1st time: Dust under screen
2nd time : Screen replaced for dust again after a few months of being replaced.
3rd time: Signal issues, dropping network signal, nearly 2 years old but had AppleCare.

Current 3Gs:

1st time: Screen blank, no backlight
2nd time: Signal issues 6-8 months after 1st replacement
3rd time: In-progress, iPhone keeps rebooting during calls, listening to music, just reading email or browsing.

Is it just me or have I been pretty unlucky with my iPhones? I always take very good care of them, most of the time they live in a slider case of some sort so never even get many scratches on them.

For my current issue Apple are sending out a replacement phone and taking my old one away at the same time within. the next 2 business days which is pretty good if you ask me. My only gripe is that they are still supplying my with a "remanufactured" phone, Apple don't do refurbs apparently, I guess it's not part of their vocabulary.

I spoke to the supervisor on my last call and asked them to supply me with a brand new phone instead as clearly the "remanufactured" ones are not as good as Apple seem to think! I have been told that Apple cannot supply new phones only these replacements but I am just not happy with it to be honest. I have been given a direct dial for the supervisor and told to contact her if I have any problems at all with my replacement and she will try to help me out as best as she can, guess I will have to wait and see!

Am I being unreasonable asking for a brand new phone?

definitely not being unreasonable asking for a new phone, seeing as its the most popular and one of the most expensive phones you would expect better build quality, i wouldnt settle for a remanufactuered one if i had spent that kind of money on a phone

I had my iPhone 4 replaced for a cosmetic mark under the glass next to the home button, like a little bit had de-laminated or something.

Replacement has a dodgy lock button, stuck on the 2nd day of having it, now it feels very wrong and rattles as I move the phone around.

Taking it back to the Apple store tomorrow.

First time I got my 3GS repaired was for faulty screen brightness sensor, then a year later I went in again for hairline crack so now I have a refurb phone as well. And now I suspect it has the signal droppage issue too. Occasionally it would drop to 1 bar sometimes even losing 3G signal then go back upto full signal strength again. But I also have friends who got one before I did and never had a problem to this day.

None so far but my iPhone4 has a really odd stain that I can't get rid of. It's under the glass and looks like screen burn, need to take it in!

Easily..

6 x iPhone 1 - dust under screen
4 x iPhone 3G - dust under screen, dead Wi-Fi
5 x iPhone 4 - Broken headphone jack, dead pixels

Owned a 3G for 2 years - no issues 100% perfect in that time.

Bought an iPhone 4 at launch (queued outside like a saddo for hours lol) and not a problem on that either.

I've owned contract phones since i was able to at 18. Apart from a Nokia 7210 that i dropped and smashed the screen of, i've never really had any issues with any of my phones. Maybe i'm just lucky ?

I've had my 3GS replaced once for a faulty silent switch. Got quite lucky as it happened 2 days before the warranty ran out.

Where these all under the same corresponding handsets? If so did Apple ever offer to replace with a new unit due to the amount of times the replacements had gone wrong?

Can people with a 4 tell me if there is any play in the lock button, mine rattles if I shake the phone. It stuck in last week too. Although it does currently work it doesn't feel great, is this reason to take it back?

Thanks

3g since release no issues to report.

I have changed the battery my self to a bigger 1600mah battery which brings it to 2 days of usage before its flat :D

Nope my iphone4 doesnt have that issue...thankfully ive never had to take my iphone4 back...its worked as good as gold from day one...probably because i keep such good care of it ie its kept in a leather slip pouch.

The rattle you can hear is the onboard accelerometer. It does it with all iPhone 3GS/4s.

The lock button does sound faulty though.

Separate handsets. Only twice I ever went through Apple for a replacement... the dead wi-fi and the dead headphone socket. The carriers (O2 and Tesco) sorted the dust and dead pixels without question.

Each one I got I checked and scrutinised like a hawk, and they all had faults of some degree.

The iPhone 4 I have now is 100% perfect though.

3GS since release, replaced last week due to battery issues (out of warranty), otherwise it has been perfect for about a year and 3/4's of constant 24/7 use.

If I hold the lock button and shake the phone I can hear the rattle from the accelerometer but that requires a much harder shake, my lock button rattles 10 times more. :(
