Silly Logitech Z-5500 speakers :(

Hi all, I have come across an issue with Logitech Z-5500 speakers. I bought them a while back, but on the first instance they simply stopped working in the space of 3 days but luckily Overclockers were kind enough to replace them with zero hassle! Anyway, I moved house recently (after a long 4-5 years of usage) and they have again simply stopped working. I flick the switch at the back of the "base unit" is it... and I used to hear a noise indicating power is flowing through it. However, now that doesn't happen and the main control unit (to control sound etc) no longer switches on.

I guess my question is, is this easy to fix? Are Logitech products generally rubbish in terms of build quality (I say this because I have had the same issue with keyboard, mouse and joystick)? Can I get another speaker set (ideally something that is generally strong) and use the mini speakers of the Z-5500 on it? Is it better to get headphones?

Sorry if I appear to be a bit of a moaner, but I was quite annoyed having seen these speakers which are supposedly amazing just simply stop moving after transferring it with extreme care

In the Logitech Z680 subwoofer there's a fuse that is in place via an external removable fuse holder, this fuse blew in my system a while back rendering the system dead, replaced fuse and all ok again. The Z5500's superceded the 680's and are very similar spec wise so it's likely they have the same fuse.

Check the rear of your subwoofer unit for a fuse holder toward the bottom, it's easily removable with a flat head screwdriver.

Smit is right about the fuse and they can quite often go on the z-5500's.

If it isn;t that contact Logitech. Good chance they will send you a new set.

Hell one guy on here got sent 10 sets by mistake!

Woooot! Really? Oh wow, will do that. Will check for that fuse but didn't realise Logitech had that good of a support team! Usually companies tend to fob you off (pardon my french).

Thanks everyone! :)

The Z 5500 Speaker Systems uses a specific SLOBLO ("Slow Blow") fuse type. It's easy to fix and can happen quite often that the fuse goes for some people. So don't panic open the fuse holder on the back of the SUB and have a look for signs of a blown fuse they are normally glass type fuses and you can see threw them to see if they have blown. Also check the fuse in the mains plug too if it has a fuse too.
