I notice that the new boards require an 8 pin molex for the CPU ATX power supply. My PSU only has 4 pin molex plugs. Do I need a new PSU to power these new P67 boards?
I don't think you need one, you can put a 4 pin into a 8 pin.
The P8P67 I got here allows the use of 4 pin in the 8 pin (it is also documented in the manual).
But, if you plan the overclock, maybe it would give you more stability to have a 8pin one.
I also have the P8P67 board and a 4 Pin PSU. I'm not currently overclocked but can get a 4.3Ghz overclock without any issue. Note that my PC isn't particularly power hungry - low spec GPU and 1 internal hard drive.
As far as I know, 8-pin "Processor Power Connector" part of the new EPS12V spec was introduced to provide two separate 12V rails for the CPU (redundant power)
It was designed for servers, but, if it's included in the motherboard design, I guess there must be a reason, maybe if one of the 12V rails fall over a set value it picks power from the other to provide more ....... stability
