I personally think pci wifi cards are a waste of time. On a standard ATX motherboard, the pci slots are at the bottom of the PC and even then most people put their computer on the floor next to their desks. You really want to leave a bit of space around the aerial. It will make a huge difference to the signal. The only exceptions are if you have some sort of extension on the aerial or if you keep your computer on top of a desk with enough space around the aerial (even still with non standard ATX motherboards).

The best solution re getting a good signal is to get a nice usb one with a good aerial and a usb extension cable of a few metres. With the extension cable you can put the aerial in a good place, somewhere high up perhaps. I wouldn't worry about usb devices using cpu cycles. You will not notice the difference.

If the router is using 802.11n, then you will also get a better signal using a compatible 802.11n dongle not to mention better speeds which would be very noticeable if you have very fast Internet (I've never achieved maxed speeds using a 802.11g link).

Yeah think I will go with a USB one and cable, as I'm 99% sure that the one above will not fit, the metal mounting plate will be to high, i've had that trouble before, tried to cut and bend them down lower but made a right bodge of it haha
